Ive been to Thailand and have not tasted food as authentic or fresh as this place I consider this an absolute must for an gastronomic experience

Ampika is a cafe by day serving all day breakkie and the usual standard fare for lunch (think burgers, etc . This review is for Ampika 's Thai by night , when it becomes a Thai restaurant from 5.30pm Wed Sundays. The location across from Noarlunga Jetty is pretty good. After some fishing and snorkelling near the jetty, we all worked up an appetite and saw this casual looking Thai restaurant and decided to go there for dinner rather than the slightly more upmarket tapas place a block down. There were indoor and outdoor seats. We settled for alfresco dining sitting inside seemed silly in such a pretty beachside setting! Unfortunately, the round table was too small for a family of four for dinner. It could hardly accommodate all our drinks and plates, let alone the food and cutlery (we may have broken one glass which fell off..... . You have to order at the counter inside the restaurant, which is a bit of a pain considering the prices they charge for simple Thai food with quite small servings. The wine selection, while locally sourced is not the best in terms of quality, which is disappointing considering the multitude of choices in this region. The food is simple, home style Thai cooking, dressed up to look like fancy Thai food, with some of the dishes tasting better than others. Don 't order the lemon pepper squid which was chewy and didn 't taste super fresh. The beef ginger stir fry was pretty good with a good selection of veg mushrooms. The rice serving is tiny (child sized! , so you do really need to order one serve (or two per adult depending on how hungry you are . I 've certainly have had much better Thai food, but this place is worth at least one visit if you sit outside to enjoy the view.
