From the outside, Chingolo looks like a nondescript deli, selling overpriced meats for you to cook at home. I wanted a dining experience and was ready to eat and was just about to walk out the door when one of the staff approached us and we said we wanted a table for two. She led us to a discreet door which opened up to a very cozy and romantic dining area, with decent seating. We didn't have an appointment, but there was an available table and we were able to bunker down and choose our orders. We got the Garlic Parmesano Fries and Soup of the Day (Pumpkin) for starters, Beef Salpicao, Chili Con Carne, and Beef Tacos for mains, and my friend and I each ordered a box of Beef Empañadas for takeaway. All the dishes were served without having to wait for too long. The fries were cooked to perfection. The soup was too watery for my taste, but you can taste the pumpkin and it's not too creamy. The Salpicao was heaven, first bite and the juicy meat would burst in your mouth. The tacos were amazing but the chili was a little too salty and savory for just tortilla chips as the side. Throughout our meal, the staff made sure to refill our water and clear our small table as we finished eating so that there was enough space. We thoroughly enjoyed the taste and the ambience of Chingolo. It was really intimate and we had a great experience.
The first thing you notice upon entering is that the place is so much smaller than it appears in pictures online. I recommend going during off-peak hours. It would be impossible to have a conversation with your dinner guest without most of other diners hearing word for word. The dining and deli area are tiny. My guest and I shared a ribeye steak and cheese burger just to evaluate the quality of their meat. Both were tasty and cooked as requested. They do not serve San Miguel beer. Other brand of beer is available. I also purchased ribeye and ground beef from the deli to cook at home. Both cooked well at home. I thought the price for the beef was reasonable being imported Argentine beef. I felt the beer and bottled water were a bit over-priced. You can reserve seating but this place is not for large gatherings or parties of 4 or more. I recommend checking out Chingolo. Good food and reasonable pricing.
We started with empanadas samples and they were all very good, 3 of them were AMAZING! My fiancé ordered picanha and he was saying “buah brutal!” on every bite. It had been a long time that ive seen him aprovechar meat that good. I had steak sandwich, it was really good but for sure it wouldve been better if it was not really cooked. I had to order cooked bc of pregnancy. We will come back for sure for sure. Food: 5
The food was good, but I'm sorry, I'm used to Midwest corn fed beef and this is not that. Argentinian steak is good, but I personally think it can't compare to US beef for flavor or tenderness. It's unfortunate because I know US steak is very expensive here! Service and friendlessness were very good Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner
