I'm not really sure where to start so I'll start with the positive. The food was very good. I had shredded chicken street tacos and they had a lot of flavor some of the best I've had anywhere. Hubby had #9 chili rellano, tostado and taco, he loved the rellano and tostado didn't get the taco. Now the WTH portion. After reading reviews we decided to try this place. The place is quite small and decorated with bright colors the usual for a Mexican restaurant it's in a small strip mall with a Chinese place at the end. We arrived about 4:00 pm on a Friday. When we arrived there were two tables already seated, a couple at one and three 20 something's at another. The table of two already had their food (I think the table of three had adult beverages. We were greeted by two YOUNG boys I'm guessing they were about 8 years old. They showed us to a table and gave us menus. We figured one was the son of the owners and the other his friend. No adult in site. They brought us chips and salsa and asked if we wanted anything to drink. We thought it was kinda cute but were not quite sure what was going on we ordered two beers (thinking it would be draft as they had taps, and that an adult would appear to take charge the boys disappeared into the kitchen, a few minutes later a man comes out of the kitchen with two bottles of beer and places them on the table, then he goes back to the kitchen. The boys come back to the table and ask if we are ready to order so we tell them our order, I'm really impressed, he doesn't write any thing down just goes back in the kitchen (we assumed to tell the adult . A little bit later the boys come back with a notepad and say they are new and could we write our order down so I do and He heads back into the kitchen again. a little bit later he comes back to the table and we ask for more chips and he says ok but it will be an extra 1.00 to which we agree. The table of three's food is delivered by the cook who brought us the beers. The young boy brings us the chips and then tells us his dad had to run to the store but would be back in 20 minutes. Well that kinda explains a little. A few minutes later his dad comes strolling in through the front door (empty handed and makes a point of stopping at all three tables to check on them, he was super friendly to all but more so to the table of three next to us. He chats a bit with us then goes to talk with the boys who show him our order. A bit later he comes to the table and asks if we are ready to order so we give him our order again and hubby asks for another beer. He comes back to the table with a fresh basket of chips and some salsa but no beer. Our food arrives Hubby requests the beer again and finally gets it. The guy sits down with the table of three and chats with them while we are eating. When the table of three is ready to leave he cashes them out then as they exit he goes outside and is gone until they pull away. He comes back in (empty handed doesn't check on us just goes into the kitchen, the cook comes out and puts two plates on the bar and turns on the TV we keep waiting for the to come check on us so we can tell him we didn't get the taco on the #9 and could we get a to go box for my leftovers. He finally comes out of the kitchen brings his plate over and shows us what he's going to have for dinner and then goes back up to the bar and precedes to eat, never asking if we'd like anything or giving us a chance to request it. We finally decide he's not coming over so we head to the register, never presented a bill he rings stuff into the register tells us what we owe (which was very reasonable we pay and leave. I'm not sure what was really going on, he supposedly went to the store for vegetables but when he returned he had no bags of any kind with him. Usually when someone makes an emergency run for supplies they come back toting them in with them. He was not in a hurry, he didn't seem to care if we were there or not (although he was friendly he wasn't concerned about serving us or running the business. Something was off I gave them 2 stars because the food was very good, I'd be tempted to place a to go order but not sure we'd do the sit down thing again. This was definitely one of the oddest experiences we've had and we dine out at least 4 night a week.
