Paulys Diner - Taupo

Is this the best burger in Taupo? Quite possibly, but the competition isn't fierce. I've been here twice and enjoyed my meals both times, but I've definitely had half a dozen burgers in New Zealand that were better. The prices are fair for the portion sizes, and both the chicken and beef appear to be of good quality. I especially love their slaw dressing, though!

Things have changed since my last visit years ago, when this place was fantastic! However, it seems that the quality has declined. I tried the southern fried chicken burger, which was decent—the chicken was great and the bun was good, but the burger itself was missing some zest or acidity. The slaw mayo tasted pretty generic, as did the burger sauce. My partner inquired about gluten-free options, and we were told there weren't any, but upon checking the menu, we discovered that gluten-free buns were available. We decided to take a chance, assuming the staff member was misinformed. Unfortunately, my partner's burger wasn’t as good and had a lot of raw onion on it. I might consider coming back if needed, but it certainly won't be my top choice anymore.

The food was delicious, and the staff was very friendly. I highly recommend the southern fried chicken in any variation, as well as the special beef burger. The jackfruit burger was quite good too. I would definitely come back!

After a long days drive and staying a night in Taupo I asked them to recommend me a burger and liking some spice I went with the chilli cheese burger with extra pattie and salad which bumped up the price a bit but gosh the burger was amazing. Patties are pure quality and spice had some zing and salad was there to balance it all out. I was very impressed. The combo with chips and milkshake is not cheap but it's worth it.

They say it is the best burger in town. I disagree. I think is the best burger in the North island. Just go there if you crave for some burger. Stop thinking. Just go. But recommend you take away, not much seats, and well... basically no ambient. Take it as a fast food joint.
