It was the last evening before the week of closure between two (spring and summer) seasons. The place must be bucolic in the middle of summer and in the heart of winter. The waitress was very kind and smiling. We received a pleasant service.. Same evening, there was a big supper which took place in the section dining room (juniors gathering). Nevertheless, our service very well took place even if the waitress worked in both places simultaneously. Bravo! On the other hand, during a "break", they were very noisy and they needed us to shout to hearing what we said. The menu was little varied but the choices which they proposed was pleasant. We took the table d'hôte with an onion soup browned in a broth of beer and soup of the moment (soup of the green peas), bib of marinated beef, burned out in spices, with juliennes of French fries and a piece of chocolate cake and Amarula liquor. The onion soup was delicious with a very hot broth and with a good taste of beer. The soup of the green peas was home-made, very hot and delicious also. For the plate of bib, we did not take the option Earth and Sea because we found that $6 more for three additional shrimps was expensive. For those who like the bib well done, you will pleasantly be satisfied, for those who like rare medium, disappointment. It is unfortunately the misfortune of the restaurants which are not specialized steakhouse there, the cooking of pieces of beef is often missed. French fries were crunchy. The portion is generous. Finally, I asked for a small surprise because I celebrated the anniversary of my husband and I had asked for a special attention for the dessert. They respected my request and our waitress accompanied by a colleague sang a Happy birthday by bringing a piece of cake to the chocolate decorated with a candle and with attractive strawberries. In the end, for an invoice bordering $100 including the tip, it's expensive for a meal which has some flavor but for whom is missing the touch "Wow".For your information, the menu is available on their Facebook pageNous sommes allés pour un souper d'anniversaire, un tête-à-tête, dans un endroit que je souhaitais romantique.
Before I explain further why I gave such a low rating, I would like to mention that I had never written a negative review before. That's not to say that I liked every place I went to, but what happened last night was not acceptable. To make a long story short, we have booked a stay at the resort Le Grand R for few days including NYE's celebration at Bistro Le Grand R. We are a large group of 21 people, three families combined of 16 adults and five kids ages 6-11. Several months prior to the NYE, we were provided with a prefix menu for New Year's eve night at the bistro. Adults menu consisted of our soup, and appetizer, a choice between chicken or meat and a dessert. Kids menu was the same as an adults only smaller portions. It was the same for everyone at the restaurant. We have had multiple discussions with the manager prior to our arrival about the kids menu. We were assured by the manager that our kids menu would be penny pasta and a slice of chicken, small salad and the same soup. We do have it documented in the emails. Especially when we were asked to pay it in full prior to our arrival for dinner including tips and tax. I found this unusual since I have never had to pay in full including tips before even coming to a restaurant. Most places require a deposit with a credit card to hold a reservation. However, we did pay in full since the manager told us this is their policy. We arrived for the New Year's eve celebration at 8 o'clock and were seated for our dinner. Our waitresses looked at us in shock when we inquired about kids menu. She said that they don't have pasta nor chicken for the children, just the same stuff as for adults which none of our kids would eat. I am yet to see a 6 year old enjoying complex French dishes! The manager came to the table and apologized since they did not prepare the meal for the children that we have discussed and paid for in full prior to even coming to the resort. She proceeded to tell us that they do not have any pasta and they can get it but it will take much longer. Kids did not get their food until 10:20 PM, we watched then eat all the bread of the table complaining of hunger until their meals finally arrived. In the meantime, we have gotten our soup which was the first course. And hour and a half later, we got the appetizer. When the main course came and we all ordered beef, we got three beefs but the rest was chicken placed on our table with the waiter telling us there's no more beef and here's your chicken. I do want to mention again that he did pre-paid in full for the menu discuss including tax and tip prior to coming to the restaurant, 3 weeks prior to our arrival. There was no apology, there was none such as saying sorry we made a mistake... we ended up getting pretty much nothing since half of us don't eat chicken. We asked the manager how is it possible to run out of something discussed and pre-paid for in advance with full knowledge how many people you will be having for dinner?! There was no explanation management. Around midnight, our dessert arrived. We did not get to try since it was time to ring in the new year. Next thing we saw, five minutes passed midnight, our table was being cleaned out including untouched dessert. I have to say, I have never had such an experience with any restaurant before in my life. We do go out a lot and dine out quite frequently. This new year celebration was a gift to our parents and family and needless to say, our experience was extremely disappointing and rather upsetting.
