Nice and quiet location, very friendly stuff and the best fish soup with much vegetable and fresh coriander on Porto Santo!
Have just returned from a 7 night stay at The Quinta Do Serrano Hotel......the restaurant food and staff were one of the highlights. A very good selection of meat, vegetarian and of course fish dishes. I love fish and they were all faultless......however, I particularly recommend the octopus and the Scabbard fish dish..
We had lunch outside so cannot comment on Accommodation/ restaurant. The meal was great, price reasonable and the service very good. The setting is spectacular. Most live on the south side of the island. This is on the stark, barren and beautiful north side looking towards Mainland Europe. A bit like a moonscape. Ecstasy if you like geology, peaks and sheer cliffs. Need a car in this area or a taxi to and from. The island is of course only 4 miles wide and about 8 miles long !!
We were lucky to come here for lunch at the end of an island tour. We were loosing faith in Madeiran cuisine at the hotel we were staying in, however, faith was restored at this lovely establishment. We had tender pieces of beef with french fries, fried maize and salad, washed down with a jug of Sangria. Garlic bread was dripping and to die for. Pudding was a delicious Maderian papaya mousse. We were offered lovely extras such as coffee. chocolates and Madeiran liqueur. Service and facilities were great in beautiful surroundings. I can definitely recommend a visit.
