The dining room had a charming old-world feel and was bustling with a group of German tourists. The staff were incredibly efficient and friendly, quickly taking our food and drink orders. We both enjoyed the steak followed by a cheese board, which was absolutely fantastic. The wine selection started at £19.50 a bottle, and we opted for a couple of Merlots at £22 each. Breakfast was also satisfying. I would recommend taking the no. 25 bus, which costs £2 for a round robin route that conveniently stops near the hotel and takes you to the Barbican, Hoe, and town centre.

My family stayed at this hotel over the weekend. The location is very convenient and the price was great thanks to a Travelzoo voucher deal. The vegetarian breakfast was delicious, the staff were all very friendly, and the hotel is charming with beautiful historical and period features displayed throughout. I would definitely recommend it!

The breakfast at this hotel is outstanding, served directly to your table in a COVID-safe manner. The dining room is spacious and magnificent.

This was our first stay at this hotel. Agree with the other reviews that the hotel needs some TLC. The staff were friendly and helpful. Room comfortable. Car park is an issue as too small for hotel this size.

Very disappointed with my stay here. A business trip and I get a single bed in a single room! I haven’t slept in a single bed since I was a child. Bashed into the wall, head butted the bedside table and had an appalling sleep....Room is on the first floor over looking s really busy road, no double glazing, no heating and old drafts windows. Couldn’t use the restaurant until after as the had a party, bar snacks were not good, the chips were so dry they were stuck in my throat and I could only eat a few. The fish finger roll was so over powered by the tartar sauce that it was difficult to eat. Breakfast wasn’t informed that there was a buffet available and only given a menu to order from. The cooked breakfast was too greasy for me and I couldn’t eat it so ended up with coffee and a piece of toast. Wouldn’t stay here again but the rooms were clean and tidy.
