Cafe Mazz - Pemberton

I went to Cafe Mazz twice in a week for dinner. This review is an average of the two visits.#1 Wednesday evening4.5 stars. Dined with my mother and a friend. Staff were friendly and accommodating, and even modified the vegetarian pasta dish for me to have a creamy garlic sauce. Serving size was MASSIVE and delicious. my companions thought the salad bar was good value. My friends steak was cooked rare-medium. She asked for rare, but was overall very happy with her meal. Got cake take away which came with a generous serving of cream. #2 Saturday evening 1.5 stars.Due to great experience, decided to go with my mum and another friend.Was a busier night, but the place was not even close to full. Was told off the bat that all the chefs were sick so they couldn't do any changes to orders. No worries (even though the steak comes with creamy garlic sauce, so found it odd it couldn't be added to the pasta). Was super friendly as I understand being overworked when people are sick. Asked for chips with sour cream. Was told there was no sour cream (no worries) how about some of the creamy garlic sauce (which, again, goes with the steak). Nope. Was directed towards the sauce table. My friends steak was ordered medium and was super well done. For $36 expected better. Not wanting the tomatoey pasta, I only got the salad bar. Half the options as the wednesday, and after a mouthful of grit I discontinued eating. Completely put off. Malteaser cake was dry and barely a dollop of cream. Staff seemed sour and curt (with the exception of bar staff who seemed lovely).A place that folds under pressure on a Saturday night... needs work. Would love to give another chance to correct review.

We ate here two nights in a row and found both times, that the meals were huge and tasted great. Plenty to choose from and the salad bar was available with each meal. The lamb ribs was a massive meal with lots of mashed potato and ten ribs! Salads were very good. Meals were all good and excellent value for money.

Although it seems like a typical bistro - albeit a good one, judging by the appearance of the plates being served to other diners - what impressed us was the platter offering two local specialities, marron and smoked trout. First class and so generous that we were unable to take advantage of the salad bar included in the price.

Food average . Poor service took an hour and a half for a steak 5 tables that ordered after us got their meals before us .

Enjoyed the full breakfast here and I would recommend it. Good selection to choose from and portions are quite large. Prices are good for what you get.
