Contribuiți la feedbackAbsolutely incredible. I 'm not a fine dining connoisseur so my review might not be as valid as someone who is, but this meal was incredible. My husband and I went for our anniversary and we plan to come back every year to experience Commis again and again. The service was so attentive and thoughtful. Multiple staff congratulated us on our anniversary. The ambiance was fantastic, perfect lighting and temperature to really just focus on the food. The food, my god. I kept saying this one 's my favorite after every meal. The true star was the poached egg and smoked dates. I 'm going to be thinking creamy little bowl for the rest of my life. The staff also gave us these tiny beautiful jasmine ice cream sandwiches. I was fearful at first because I 'm not a fan of floral desserts, but the jasmine was so balance and added such a lightness to the little treat, I 've changed my mind about florals in dessert. My husband and I also did the wine pairing. Since the night was mostly seafood, it was mostly white wine which I prefer anyway. The meal was definitely pricey, but it was a special occasion. My husband and I left full and giddy. I would definitely recommend Commis if you are celebrating something.
Mmmmmmm this was my 1st Michelin restaurant with 2 stars! Definitely enjoyed each course, they were so different and there was so much flavors and textures in each. They went heavy on the seafood so when they asked if we had any allergies and joked that we were allergic to seafood, his face went blank and said the dinner is filled with seafood. He had a sigh of relief when we told him we were kidding haha. The dinner are was quite small, fits maybe 8 tables or less it looked like. I can see why it books up every night and quite fast, but it was definitely worth it! We didn't do the wine/alcohol pairing and opted to get a drink or 2 each and we didn't get the extras they offered such as wagyu for an additional cost and we still had a great time. FYI, sparkling water is $5 each person and still water is free. I liked that they gave us a menu to take home, because I couldn't remember each and every course we had as they kept coming and coming haha.
I've lived near Piedmont Ave for five years and this was my first time at Commis an occasion. I was a really special meal, maybe made all the more because of the location in Oakland on this nice but not super fancy street, across from a Pet Food Express. The drinks, food, and service, even the room, feel very precise perhaps a little cold in that precision. But it's clear the entire staff is holding themselves to a high standard. We did the bar prix fixe, it was plenty of food, we both left stuffed. All of it was great, complex, elegant. Very Michelin y. My favorite thing, though, honestly, was the levain bread, which I could just eat all day every day. It came warm and had a gorgeous smooth crisp crust that protected a wonderfully light and chewy interior. It was the most humble seeming thing we were served, but just so good, and a beautiful example of what they are capable of.
All I can say was that every dish was fantastic. I've been to a few Michelin star restaurants and this was one of my all time favorites.
Awesome experience!!! Great ambiance with attentive and knowledgeable waiters and amazing food! We had before dinner cocktails the bar prix fixe with wine pairing and the caviar special appetizers! Everything looked and tasted delicious!!! I will definitely return to try other offerings.
