California Burrito - Norfolk

I was really pleased to see a separate vegan menu available. I ordered the vegan nachos with extra guacamole since the only other gluten-free option was the burrito bowl. Just a heads up, the guacamole costs an extra $3.50, and the vegan sour cream is $3. The food was delicious, and the portion sizes were quite generous. However, I would only return occasionally since there are many other fantastic and more affordable options in the area.

They charge $3 for guac vegan sour cream they just give you a small container of it. definitely not worth it. Once we got our order our fries were cold.

I ordered a large vegan chimichanga but ended up with burritos instead. They were steamed, resembling unusual Mexican dumplings. The filling was primarily black beans and undercooked rice that definitely needed some seasoning. Luckily, you can request a tasty homemade green sauce to pour over it. They also use Daiya cheese and Tofutti sour cream, and the “large” version includes guacamole—though we ended up bringing half of it home. We arrived before the lunch rush, only to find out that our meal was supposed to come with chips (at least, we think it was). The large group that came in after us seemed to have a better experience, making us wonder if we had just come at the wrong time. Perhaps the confusion was due to the young boy who took our order at the register. The venue is small but adequate for one large office group; however, it’s best suited for take-out. We might consider giving it another shot if we’re in the area, but we probably won’t go out of our way. I’m sure there are better vegan Mexican restaurants nearby. This restaurant offers excellent and fast vegan choices. The nachos are particularly delicious! My mother-in-law ordered a vegetarian bowl and really enjoyed it as well. We are in town just for the weekend for a wedding, and we appreciated having a quick lunch option where everyone could find something they liked.

I stumbled upon this little gem while exploring the strip. It's a cozy, hole-in-the-wall spot with delicious and filling burritos. What really impressed me was the salsa—it had a great kick to it, with a blend of jalapeños and habaneros mixed in with tomatoes. It really elevated the whole experience! Plus, there’s a small bar/club at the back of California Burrito that features some lively Latin music, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.
