We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner while we stayed in the Southgate Motel, with good food and cheerful service. It's a pity that Gates doesn't open for dinner on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Does this indicate a clientele based mainly on business travellers?

We ate at the Southgate tonight with our 2 children. Food was delicious and service was friendly and efficient. Restaurant was quiet which was surprising given our excellent meals.

We dined here as part of a group experience with a set menu for a private function. Generally this place doesn't look very busy and that gives the impression that it's lacking in quality as an eatery. Not so, this was quite nice food, promptly delivered to the table and wait staff were quietly accomplished.As I like a bit more atmosphere, this place probably won't become my go-to or first choice dining location, but I won't have a problem coming here again if the situation arises.

We love a buffet breakfast and asked at information if any places in Mt Gambier did one. We were told there were none. We were therefore very happy to find on checking in to the Best Western Southgate (by pure coincidence), that they do a continental buffet breakfast! They had a nice range of reasonably-priced cooked breakfasts which included the continental selection too. Had breakfast there yesterday and we were more than happy with what was available on the buffet. Recommended!
