When ever in Melbourne it would be a crime for us not to visit this institution. Always the very best of service, superb fresh and tasty food and more than just your traditional Chinese. They have managed to keep up with the. Times with innovative tasty fresh food.The waiters and staff are professional, friendly and helpful in every way.So good we managed to sneak in two meals over our long weekend.Superb as always.

We had excellent Chinese cuisine with attentive service this evening. We liked being well spaced from other diners and the restaurant is most attractive in an understated way. The approach though is deceptive being in a lane which at night is poorly lit.We highly recommend Flower Drum.

It's another restaurant that will persistently gives you good service and quality Chinese food, though there will never any surprise ( good or bad), but at least you know what to expect and you will have an enjoyable and predictable night, which is extremely important nowadays. Not many 5 stars service can guarantee such kind of service nowadays! Some upmarket restaurants' waiting staff will give you attitude, where it will never happen in Flower Drum.

A place where people mark special occasions. Great service and food and wine to match. The wine list is like no other in Chinese restaurants. Had the banquet as could not decide but the wait staff are happy to advice.

I have always wanted to dine at this iconic Melbourne restaurant, but I feel like I should have gone 30 years ago, when I could have barely afforded it. The food is good, the staff are professional and the service is faultless. At the end of the day, however, you have paid over $200 a head for some decent, but not extraordinary Chinese food. The highlight was probably the Peking duck, the low light was definitely dessert (fried ice-cream, banana or apple fritters...). If you want good Chinese or Asian food, then there are many choices where the food is equally good, at a fraction of the price. If you want high end fine dining, then Melbourne has some truly fabulous and exciting offerings.The Flower Drum was a pioneer of fine dining in Melbourne, but 42 years later it seems to have stood still and is more of a museum piece than a modern dining experience.
