Its rooms display an impressive collection of Canadian art including some prints by Henri Masson. This also features in the conservatory where we had lunch as a group of 11 but the view from the picture window opposite over a river gorge and waterfall was even more compelling. The lunch menu is slightly confusing including items only served after 5.30pm with a list of appetisers and mains served until 3.30pm after which the menu is reduced, but precisely how is not apparent. Apart from a green salad which lacked dressing and seasoning the mains impressed including roast lamb and swordfish specials of the day but especially seared bison tartare cut into little pieces scattered beneath a veritable forest of nuts, leaves, beetroot and sesame crispbreads. A pity some substantial plates of charcuterie and pickles came with rather than before the mains.
Located in the Mill hotel. The restaurant overlooks the waterfall. The food is very good. The grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup was excellent. The poutine side dish was OK. I had the chicken breast meal and it was good. Service was somewhat slow. The desserts were excellent. I had the deconstructed lemon pie. The view is spectacular!
A friend and I celebrated our Fall birthdays by lunching at le Moulin bistro. We both ordered the grilled cheese, served with tomato soup and a garden salad. Delicious! Everything on the menu sounded so good, and although we asked for a taste of each item (especially on the dessert menu! , we had to choose only one. What a feast! We sat near the falls although they could barely be heard through the closed windows. The service was exceptional.
The Moulin was always a bit overpriced but in the past that was countered by good food and nice atmosphere the view of the falls really is lovely) however the last two times i have been I figured you need to try again) were disappointing enough to write this review. Portions are small, bread is only served on request, not much for vegetarians or those with celiac, and the food is really substandard for example the $18) salads sound great but turn out to be little more then a mound of lettuce with so so dressing. Prices are not super high except the steak) but ridiculous for what you get. I should, in the interests of fairness, say the service was quite good and attentive.
The ambiance by the waterfalls was fantastic. The service was top-notch. However, the food was subpar. I was let down by the quality of the dishes given the high prices. It was definitely not worth the money.
