Contribuiți la feedbackWith no previous information I assumed this was a BBQ type eatery. It was nothing of the type. There were 6 in our party and we all ordered two dishes on the advice of our waiter to share. The food was all good. The blue cheese stuffed dates, the potatoes, the mushrooms and the assorted meat tray were awesome. The Brussels sprouts and the salad were good but not to rave over. Would have like to tried the steak but we couldn't agree on how well done we wanted it so that will have to wait until next time, and there will be a next time.
Menu is limited with repeats of many ingredients. The restaurant doesn't really have an atmosphere (although with eclectic rooms and a building it wouldn't be too difficult to accomplish). They state right in their menu that they don't do changes or substitutions but all I asked was that I get the beet salad without goat cheese - nope. The food we ate was good ... just not something I would return for,It comes across as a place that a chef owns and operates where you are expected to eat exactly how they want and plan without any thought to individual tastes. They would be better to have a set "meal" or servings for the night and have everyone get the same thing. Also, quite expensive for what you get.I won't go back.
We had a group at Three Boars and I wish I could write a review for the 10+ people who were there. It was a consensus that the food was NOT good, OVERPRICED, and the service was stuck in slow motion. I'm not sure who runs this hipster joint, but I hope it doesn't suck anymore good money out of this economy. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE! Edmonton is a City full of great places to eat, this is not one of them. The tattoo'd hipster of a chef is over his head.
Our experience with Three Boars Eatery started with making a reservation. We wanted to take a reservation for 2 people at 5 pm which was the time that they open. The employee on the phone was friendly and knowledgeable. He was able to answer my questions about the gluten free options which sounded promising. When we arrived on the day of our reservation we got there just a few minutes before 5 pm and the doors were locked. I was surprised that they didn’t open the doors just a few minutes early for customers with reservations at 5 pm. So we walked around the block while we waited. There is not a lot of parking available so I recommend either walking or cabbing there. They opened their doors for us right at 5 pm.We were greeted right at the door which was nice and the employee offered to check to see if our table was ready while we waited at the front. The entrance was very small and included a stairwell going up to the restaurant seating, the kitchen, and a bar. The employee came back to get us and took us up the tight stairwell to our table.Upstairs there was a room to the left and a room to the right with tables. We sat to the left. It was quaint at best but lack luster for my liking. The seating isn’t terribly comfortable. We were the only people seated in there. One other table arrived shortly after but they’re either not a very popular location or they pick up later at night. Our server came by and brought us some water. He explained the menu to us and suggested, because the plates are small, to order several dishes and share them between the two of us. We took some time to decide on our drinks first. I decided to try their wine which turned out to be okay but the selection is small. My date wanted to order a rum and coke. They offered him a drink made of a rum we hadn’t heard of before and some kind of home-made coke. He didn’t like it at all. He said it was much too sweet. We took some time to look at the menu and were sorely disappointed. The menu is very sparse and when you can only order the gluten free options it becomes even sparser. We are always grateful for restaurants that offer gluten free but it just was not satisfying. To further the disappointment, there were only a couple of options within the gluten free list that looked remotely appetizing. We were tempted to leave by this point but since we already had our drinks we agreed to ordering just 2 plates as appetizers and then leaving to go somewhere else for a real dinner. We struggled, but managed to find 2 items on the menu to order. We went with the Devils on Horseback (blue cheese stuffed bacon wrapped dates) and the small “From the Slicer” assortment of meat. The food came out slow and scattered which I guess they warned us would happen. As a warning, they will tell you the portion sizes are small. This will not prepare you for how small they are. They are smaller than small! I thought the Devils on Horseback were delicious but came out scalding hot. My date couldn’t stand them so I had to eat them all. The assortment of meat was tasty but pointless. I could have got the same thing from a package of Carl Budding for way cheaper. They also served it with the dipping sauce on the side. I wish they hadn’t brought it out at all because it did contain gluten and I told them it was for a severe gluten allergy. It felt like we had been there for a long time and we were just eager to leave. We finally got our bill and for 2 alcoholic beverages and 2 of the smallest plates I’ve ever seen it came to over $70 which is atrocious. We ended up leaving and going elsewhere for a real dinner where we had a great time and great food. The Three Boars Eatery had a few nice things about it but I will not be recommending it to anyone based on my experience.
We came here as a start to a night out at 3 different cocktail bars. The bar doesn't look like much walking in, as it's quite small, but the bartender did a fantastic job. He brought our cocktails upstairs to us himself, explained what they were, and even took care to consider my nut allergy by not putting maraschino liquor in my drink. The food was amazing. I didn't think I liked blue cheese until I had the blue cheese stuffed dates (likely because they were wrapped in bacon). The brussels sprouts were great, and I fell in love with the pickled carrots that came on the charcuterie plate. I forgot to ask if I could buy a jar! We'll be back for sure.
