I'm always wary of celebrity strewn walls in an establishment. I find the bigger the publicity the lower the quality of food compared to the restaurant's hey day pre-fame. I must say Dream Cafe lives up to the hype. They keep a neat little list with everyone from Stevie Ray Vaughan to Bono to Kelly Clarkson previously grabbing their tables. This culinarily judgmental New Yorker was pleasantly surprised by the pillowy soft flavorful Hippie blueberry pancake. I was delighted by the crisp buttery biscuit with a soft fluffy interior topped with delicious scrambled eggs , diced sausage, with a healthy dollop of gravy and Cholula hot sauce. It was good to the last bite and even though their style of hash (non crispy and shredded potato) is my least favorite variety, it was hard not to polish off the plate with a dosing of that gravy and hot sauce. After a slight misstep (the first set of hippie pancakes were raw at the center with uncooked batter visible once I reached it) the second set of pancakes were perfectly done and even more delicious than my initial bites of the first. Up beat music from flossing gently from the speakers spanning the past five decades, with a perfect amount of sunshine, and the gentle rumbling of the McKinney Street car were the perfect backdrop to a great meal. The price was right too–my entire meal came in at $24 including tax (not tip).
Walked in and felt very inviting. The waitress Misty was incredibly sweet and on top of everything we needed. To start we ordered beignets, a cappuccino and a latte. For main brunch we ate the Country Benedict and avocado toast. The Country Benedict was surprisingly fantastic. The eggs were poached to perfection surrounded by perfectly fried chicken. Which was seasoned and so moist. Topped with this hollandaise style gravy. So good. It reminded me of chicken and waffles. Now the only thing i wish i asked was for a crispier home fries. But it was buttery and delicious, almost didnt even need that extra texture of the crispy potatoes, as long as I portioned it correctly. I would come back again. Thank you Misty for food and sightseeing recommendations!
Great food, Great atmosphere, Great service. Enjoyed my 40th brunch celebration here and the staff was very accommodating, personable, and sweet. They met every need. I can’t wait to go back again, again, and again.
Ok waitress was great. space is blocked and no place to move. the problems were that eating was burned. the second pancake was black. Huhn had no taste. son eating biscuit and hathbrowns was not good. it was okay, but it was probably too expensive.
