Nice place to visit if you are a neuvo-middle-aged upper middle class wannabe (just one generation out of the big from Cavan or something). Lots of pretentious treats for those who want to fill their wine glasses to the brim and try to pretend that you know everything about Irish Merlots... I'm kind of pretentious too, so I felt at home here. I would have given 5 stars, but they ran out of boojewlay wine and camerbay cheese.
I come here with my Mom every time I come home to Ireland. The food is kind of 'Irish country-style ' with a healthy edge. But they have an amazing selection of the most 'wholesome ' cakes so it 's not that healthy! Then there is the shopping in the store outside the cafe and walking the gardens. It 's a whole experience and worth every moment (and all the € you will happily part with!
I just love everything about this place! Well worth the trouble of getting there.
(11/8/2017) If Anthropologie and Whole Foods had a baby, you'd get the Avoca Market. We had a pit stop/lunch here on a tour. Was a nice, unexpected respite, place seems a little out of the way to me, but it's a gem in the middle of the woods. It's a retail store cum café, bakery, deli, grocer, gardening center, wine shop, rotisserie, book store, pretty much a little something for everyone. Very high end stuff. Saw plenty of tourists arriving on motorcoaches (including ourselves), but did also see a few folks who looked like they might have been locals doing a little holiday shopping. The best looking thing there was the fresh roast pork or fresh roast chicken was heavenly.
