Contribuiți la feedbackFailed to get in first night. Fully booked. Second attempt we pre booked! Took smaller taster menu and ordered G Ts. Unfortunately, the first of the sommelier choices a sparkling wine arrived at the same time! As per most Michelin style restaurants, plates are small and tasty. However, no questioning of allergies and the steak course was too rare for my wife’s taste. Very pleasant, helpful, informative staff. One serious minus, no lock on loo door!
Great food, service a real disaster… My husband and I tried one of the tasting menus, the food quite good in general, except for the dessert, but the service was terrible. The wait between plates was eternal, the sommelier never showed up to explain the bottle of wine ordered, and when given feedback, the excuse was that was a busy August… it’s quite a pity, but I do not recommend.
We were disappointed overall which was a shame because the actual food was very good. When we arrived we were presented with set menus. This is not disclosed on the website which shows an a la carte menu only. There three choices. We prefer seafood which was the most expensive €85 per head with six courses. There was no 3 4 course option with only seafood. The two other options had a steak and duck between £45 and 65. We made the mistake of electing for matched wines at €65 (from memory). There was also confusion at the start of the evening. 15 minutes in they needed to clarify which menu we were having. Also I am gluten free. I checked if this was ok and they said yes. However when the hor dourves arrived 3 of the 5 contained gluten. I only discovered this when I checked. This happened again when desert arrived. The food the hor dourves were good as was the bread. The starters (an oyster, a prawn, cod, and red mullet with risotto) were very good. Then the fish. Then desert pineapple foam with chocolate ice cream and a cake. The hor dourves, oyster, bread, prawn and cod came fast. With the hor dourves we had a glass of Portuguese sparkling which was nice but not amazing. Then with the oyster a Portuguese white. Again was good but not great. Then with the bread came another white wine. Then the prawn came and the cod and no more wine. The sommelier then brought a glass of wine which he said he expected we may not like, then proceed to pour us both a full glass and then ask us to taste it. It was not good. He did replace it but with a wine that was not as good as those that came before and the glass was only half filled. Finally a Madeira wine with desert which was ok but a Port would have been better. The whole meal took 4 hours which was not pleasant. Then we received the bill with 23% VAT on top of the already very expensive meal, £150 per head. When we did not offer a tip the waitress was surly and asked why not. When we explained she looked unimpressed. We felt like tourists that had been taken advantage of. I could not recommend.
