Escoffier - Zürich

Though the food was good and ample, the culinary artistry suggested by its name was not in evidence. This seems mainly a place where the locals go. It is unpretentious, mostly Swiss and reasonable. They have daily specials that include something additional to the main...dish, such as a salad. It is located in the Seefeld section and closes at pm. Restaurants serving dinner usually first open at pm, so Escoffier is fine for an early dinner or lunch.

Escoffier is a small, but nice coffee house (or restaurant) with in- and outdoor seating from the tramstop Feldeggstrasse. They offer breakfast, some lunch menus, afternoon cakes and rather early dinner (they close at We had a late breakfast (scrambled eggs) and as...we were talking decided to stay for lunch. For Zürich, the lunch offers were rather low priced (incl. soup or salat), but nevertheless good. Especially, the beef carpaccio was very tasty. The staff was surprisingly friendly (we even witnessed how the service lady helped an handicapped patron the cut his meal).

Restaurant Café Escoffier is located just around the corner from Seefeldstrasse and easily accessed with Tram to Feldeggstrasse. The place has a nice row of sidewalk tables with a nice, quiet view. Inside, the place has a very basic and not very imaginative atmosphere,...with not much for decorations and only a few pictures on the wall. There are padded booths and wooden tables and chairs. I ordered a hot tea that was served with a cookie. Not impressed with the atmosphere, the staff was okay; otherwise, no real need to return.
