Contribuiți la feedbackThe Railway Euxton boasts an impressive menu for a pub, and its extensive gluten-free options caught our attention during our visit. Our son indulged in the steak pie and was unwilling to share a bite. I opted for the Lancashire Hotpot, which I had planned to swap with half of the steak pie, and while it was tasty, it didn't quite compare to my grandma's version. Our gluten-free friend was delighted by the variety of options available and chose the fish pie, which she thoroughly enjoyed. We ended our meal with a delicious sticky toffee pudding and a gluten-free iced lemon and Grand Marnier mousse, leaving us feeling pleasantly satisfied. The pub features Hobgoblin, Cumberland, and a rotating guest ale on tap, providing plenty of choices for those in search of the perfect pint. The establishment was clean, the staff was friendly, and there was a lovely small beer garden outside. It was also clear that the pub area was separate from the restaurant section. Please note that the venue is now known as The Railway Euxton, so the Railway Tavern name listed on Yelp is outdated.
However, a few minutes later, a family of four, including two toddlers (one in a highchair), was seated right next to us. Since we were looking forward to a quiet meal away from noisy children, we felt compelled to apologize for seeming rude and asked to move to another table. The family acknowledged that they couldn’t understand why they were placed next to us when the restaurant was so empty, especially since they had specifically requested a corner table to let their kids make noise without bothering other diners. That was our first complaint. Next, when our starter of mixed breads and crispbreads arrived, it consisted of a small wooden board with four chunks of different types of bread (which were indeed tasty and fresh), but it came with only three tiny pots of oil and aioli, and no crispbreads at all. Our plates were cleared and we were immediately asked if we were ready for our main courses; however, the staff was accommodating when we asked for a few minutes to relax and enjoy our drinks. When our roast dinners finally arrived, I must say I’ve seen more meat in a frozen dinner for one. There were just three small, thin slices of beef, accompanied by a Yorkshire pudding and three roast potatoes. The vegetables, served in separate dishes, included a dish of delicious cauliflower cheese, and another with about six baby carrots alongside just enough mixed greens (zucchini, peas, and beans) for us to each have a small scoop. The beef was flavorful and tender, but my partner finished it in no time. I ended up giving him my remaining meat and potatoes, while I took the cauliflower cheese for my main dish. At £13.95, we felt this was poor value for money, especially in an area filled with pubs offering two-for-one Sunday lunches and carvery menus. Although the dessert menu had some tempting options for sweets and ice cream, we decided to skip them after our bill had already reached £40 for the bread, two meager roast dinners, a glass of wine, and a pint of lemonade. We left feeling disappointed because the staff was friendly and efficient, and there was a nice atmosphere in the dining room. We might consider returning during the week to see if the regular menu provides better value, but for now, we’ll be seeking our Sunday dinner fix elsewhere!
If you're in the mood for pub food, you can't go wrong with the newly refurbished Railway Tavern. They use locally sourced ingredients, and every dish is freshly prepared by their chefs, making for a delightful dining experience. Their menu features classic British fare, like Lancashire cheese and onion tart and Goosnargh cornfed chicken. The meals are consistently tasty, well-presented, always served on time, and there are no frozen chips in sight! The staff are friendly and welcoming—definitely no sultry waitresses here—and they are accommodating to families with children. My personal favorite is the warm bread served with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and butter. It's truly a wonderful and relaxed place to eat, and the prices are quite reasonable too.
Great pub, clean and modern. Staff friendly and attentive. Food (roasted beef Sunday lunch) was really nice, place lacks a little atmosphere though as it never seems very busy ... Such a shame because they are so keen to please.
