Cogan's is about as close as you to a classic tri-state deli, and they do a very good job. I like their paninis, especially the Bert is a way out. I'll say their shares are something on the smaller size. I think the sandwich sizes are decent, but the pommes, pasta salad and potato salad are very meager portions. The Pasta Potato Salad is located in a Kondiment-Condiment-Container (needed to do better there). Service is fine, always the feeling that the checkout could be a little more friendly in my opinion, but the food makes it.
Cogans is one of my regular places, great deli sandwiches with wild boar head meat, pretty the best jersey boardwalk type seasoned frits! I wish they had better freshly brewed sweet tea, although as a golden tip!
It's a fun place to be especially when they invite a local band to play. The crowd is fun, not rowdy and the servers are remarkably efficient and great! We ordered a couple of drinks, a veggie sandwich, shrimp basket, and fish and chips. We had fun and plan to hang out there again.
Clam chowder was very good. Also had the Dorsey Green(all veggie) sandwich which was excellent as well. Definitely will return when in the area.
Per their sign Cogan's opens at 11, but the door had to be unlocked for us and the other patrons waiting, when we arrived at 11:25. The woman who took our order complained about her mask making her nose run (not great convo for a food service employee during a pandemic)! We were assured anything we did not care for on our sandwich could be left off. We both ordered our sandwiches without something on them. Both came out wrong. My friend's had tomatoes which she asked to be left off. Mine had bacon, which I requested be left off. Our order was even repeated to us as it was input into the computer... I took my sandwich back to have a new one made as the bacon was chopped and not easily removed. It was returned to me a few minutes later, having had the bacon simply picked off. I still found pieces of bacon on it (see pics), and I was very disappointed that was the resolution. I suspected that might happen. As a medical professional, I certainly hope they don't do this with a food someone could have anaphylaxis from simply by contact. I enjoy their food, but I wouldn't want it as my last meal! No one asked how our food was, which was no surprise as I'm sure they saw me picking bacon off. Disappointed and not sure we will ever return.
