Hillcrest Bakery & Deli - White Rock

This bakery is our favourite in White Rock -- the staff are friendly and helpful, and thebaked goods including bread are delicious.

I stopped in to get a some dinner buns and discovered the many goodies they also had to offer. Cinnamon buns were amazing!

At the pastry counter, I was ignored. A customer who clearly arrived after me, was greeted quickly, and served. She knew I was next, and asked whether there was someone ahead; but the staff replied "oh, it's fine". She received friendly courteous service, while I was spoken to abruptly. I am non-white, and I sense the disparity in service may have been race-based. Whether so or not; I do not appreciate discourtesy, and I do not recommend Hillcrest.

This bakery is very expensive......$1.95 medium size muffins are coffee shop prices! Quality of items is not consistent. Just finished a lemon square (1.95) which was faint lemon flavour and a doughy, tasteless base. Eclairs are very good but, again, pricy. I guess they do well because they are the only show in town.....

We always order a Black Forest cake for my mother's birthday, and it never fails to impress our taste buds. Their brownies are delish, too.
