Il Caminetto - Whistler

Our server was very attentive and very pleasant, but we found the restaurant very noisy and we had a hard time hearing him. The menu was not especially exciting to us, the food was quite good but not as amazing as we had expected. The appetizers were not as appealing as we would have expected, the halibut was absolutely perfect but the duck was somewhat tasteless I expected a more gamy taste, but instead it was kind of difficult to distinguish from pork. Veggies were nice and the presentation was beautiful. The desserts were not as good as expected... loved the tea cup idea for the tiramisu, but too much cocoa on top and lacking the coffee or alcohol flavor that I like. I was disappointed that the server's assistants forgot about the 70th birthday request to have a candle on my husband's dessert, but he will survive. So, compared to our many experiences with restaurants like Araxi, Rimrock, and Red Door in Whistler, this was not as amazing as we had expected a little underwhelming.

Enjoyed a fine dinner and only downside was the acoustics are poor and the noise is very high so difficult at times to hear.

I love the Caminetto for a date night or a girl’s night. The spring special was on which made it even more fun and affordable. Perfect service that’s not snobby but knowledgeable and a beautiful wine selection. Get a glass of Moscato to finish off the night.

Overall I was disappointed with our experience even though I scored the evening as Good mainly due to company and event) Menu options: Prix fixe or a la carte... I 'm always surprised by promos that are not what they appear to be...I once went to an all-inclusive resort which had many items available at an additional cost to the all-inclusive price. I felt the same way during our evening...many items on the prix fixe menu were available for an additional supplemental cost. I am dismayed by this. If an item cannot be included without the supplement then it should stay in the a la carte menu...I am bothered by the notion that I got my appetizer, first course and dessert for free as a result of paying extra for a main course item. In addition to the above, I felt the salad portion was a lovely presentation, but could have been a little bigger...three small roasted cauliflower florets was hardly a tasting. My ONE tortelloni the word is plural an implies more that one) was cold and under cooked and my fish was overcooked. I am not in the habit of leaving reviews such as this. I do feel somewhat obliged to given we spent $400.00 and no one was raving about the taste and quality of the food. Kitchen staff and chef can do better.

We had to ask twice for refills on soft drinks and didn’t even get one we ordered. Food menu was limited and server was snooty. Wine menu was extensive and did have good choices.
