Contribuiți la feedbackI have been waiting for a good Chinese restaurant to come to West Vancouver. The Horseshoe Bay Chinese Restaurant has had a few different owners over the years. It isn't the ownership that is nearly as important as the chef, however. This restaurant has been good, mediocre and bad throughout the years. I had given up on this place with my most recent experiences being bad, but a friend told me new owners were in and the food was good. I had to try it again. Happy news! The last two times I have been in, the food has been really good. I ordered chow fun the first time. It was prepared well and not overly oily. Today I had the Singapore Noodles. Once again, well prepared. Seasoned well and not oily. I think I am building my courage for the big test: Kung Pao Chicken. If they can prepare this like I know it should be, I'll be ecstatic. Let's keep in mind, this is a little place in the small of Horseshoe Bay, which makes it even more special. I hope the quality continues. Return visit update: Kung pao chicken: no peanuts!? Baby corn made some of the other veggies sour. Why is there baby corn in Kung pao chicken? Underwhelmed as a Kung Pao chicken dish but could have scored higher as a spicy chicken chop suey. BBQ pork fried rice: no complaints. Good flavour and rice texture.
They have re opened thank god I missed them just ordered lunch and the food was good just one person running the store for now the cook said the had been closed for 2 months and was glad to be open again let's help him by telling friends that they are back and order from them to help him survive
Heard from co-worker locals that this restaurant is under new management. Hubby and I hadn't tried the old one, but we've picked up take out twice from the new Horseshoe Bay Chinese Restaurant over the past two months. We've ordered a couple of dishes and picnicked in the park while waiting for the ferry. The staff were friendly and jovial both times. We've tried General Tao's tofu, tofu with eggplant, Buddha's feast and Vegetable Chow Mein. Dishes were prepared fast, delivered hot, and delicious both times. One dish per person filled us up with leftovers for later. And because of the quick service we've finished with ample time to catch the ferry. We'll be back!
We wanted to like this place. We live in the neighborhood and it would have been great to have a Chinese take out place so close. The experience was unfortunately below one star. The onion pancakes were raw and tasteless, fried wontons were actually fried wonton wrappers (no filling). Lemon chicken: without any exaggeration, half breading with oil soaked flower and half chicken with barely a hint of lemon glaze. Chicken with cashews had maybe a half chicken breast in it. To top it all off, a Saturday night movie night with the family turned into an all nighter taking turns in the bathrooms due to food poisoning from one or more of the aforementioned dishes. What a shame. The restaurant interior looks like walking into someone's messy home. It was already discouraging when I saw the lack of order or cleanliness inside, but as it seemed like a family ran business, inclusive of what seems like a 10-12 year old boy working in the kitchen, I figured maybe the food turns out ok. It did not and it firmly placed this restaurant among the worst I have ate at.
Update it seems to have turned around. Kind of like the Chinese restaurants in small towns across Canada. The current owners are pleasant and nice to deal with. Always get the order right. Hits the spot when you're looking for an easy going $15.00 combo!
