Contribuiți la feedbackI have lived in Washington my whole life, and Tony Cheng’s has long been a staple in my family. It is the go-to destination for any family member’s birthday party. Located in Chinatown, near the now completely re-vitalized Gallery Place/Verizon Center area, it is a very popular destination among locals and tourists. The interior is over-the-top in a fun way – huge comfortable chairs and large tables are abundant. It is likely to get crowded on the weekends, especially when there is an event at the Verizon Center, so reservations are recommended for large groups. I usually go for dinner, but it is packed among the corporate crowd during lunch. There is an a-la-carte menu, but the reason to go is for the Mongolian-style grill. The large grill is in the center of the restaurant, manned by between 3-4 chefs. You pick your own food from the salad-bar-esque area surrounding the grill, and it is custom cooked for you. There is a variety of raw vegetables and meats to choose – cilantro, sprouts, carrots, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes (to name a few) and chicken, beef, veal, and lamb. Shrimp is extra but is a great addition. There are at least 15-20 different types of sauces to choose from for your food to be cooked in, but I recommend allowing the chefs to do this for you. It is a bit expensive (I believe about $17/person) although dinner is all-you-can eat. Warm, fresh rolls and large bowls of rice are included in the menu price. When it’s crowded, service can be slow due to the limited number of chefs, but it is overall very quick (under an hour). There is a wide selection of beer and other mixed drinks. I love it here, although I am perhaps just a bit bias due to the number of family functions I have attended. It’s quite the experience – I highly recommend it for those venturing towards Chinatown!
This restaurant located in the Chinatown section of Washington DC just around the corner from Verizon Center.
Since I have only been to the upstairs Dim sum portion of the restaurant, that is what this review is about.
Go if you're in DCGood for kids and they do cook the food in front of you.
It was excellent before Covid, but after the DC shutdown, they closed and not reopened a tragedy for those of us were long time bullets!
