Contribuiți la feedbackA bit hard to find behind another restaurant, but the food was plentiful and delicious. Easy to order with a page of vegan burrito options.
Somewhat hidden from view (the only signage I saw outside was a sandwich board painted in the colors of Mexico’s flag saying “Mexican” Gordo’s (or is it Gordos? serves excellent vegan fare off a full 6-page vegetarian menu. Most patrons appear to order takeout at the counter. We opted to sit and eat in the cool, informal dining room, cheerfully decorated with papel picado and paintings of Mexican Hawaiian scenes. Vegans have three distinct soy protein choices: asada, carnitas, and tofu crumbles. My tofu asada burrito was very convincing in flavor and texture. I would’ve thought I’d received the wrong order (meat if the cook hadn’t said it was vegan asada when she brought it. The burritos were delicious and satisfying, filled with choice of protein, beans, rice, cabbage and pico de gallo. I highly recommend the mango agua fresca, which was just the right sweetness and totally refreshing. My husband had a vegan horchata made with coconut milk which was also tasty and perfectly spiced with a touch of cinnamon. We thoroughly enjoyed our vegan burritos at Gordo’s. It was as good as what we’d get in the Mission district in San Francisco. Updated from previous review on 2022-12-31
This deserves 5 stars, but the app will only let me do 4 because they also serve non vegan food. This place is the best, the family that runs it is lovely, the portions are great, prices are perfect, and the food is seriously out of this world. 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND
I’ve dined in and ordered take out. Both experiences were without complaint. They made the food in a timely manner and had very good customer service. They have a designated vegan menu which makes ordering super convenient. They have good size portions and the food is so good.
Gordo 's Mexican Food is located in Waialua at the historic Koga Theater building. The gray and salmon colored building has a fun, hippie vibe and is next to the Paalaa Kai Bakery. Parking is limited, but you can park across the street. You will enter though the North Shore Coffee Bar and head to the back left. I placed an order online via their online ordering app and selected my pick up time. I recommend ordering online as there is a specific vegan menu and customizations available. Once I figured out how to get to them from the location inside, I was greeted by the owner. She is very sweet and welcoming. She and her chef husband are both vegan. I ordered a variety of dishes to share with my family : REGULAR BURRITO $12.00 Served with choice of Asada , Tofu Taco Crumble, or Carnitas Rice, Beans, Pico de Gallo, REGULAR NACHO $8.00 Queso topped with Jalapenos, MOJADO BURRITO (WET) $14.00 Smothered in choice of Red or Green Sauce with Meat, Rice, Beans, Pico de Gallo, CHIPOTLE PLATE $15.00 Peppers, Onions, and Mushrooms in a Creamy Sweet and Spicy Chipotle Sauce. Served with Rice, Beans and Flour or Corn Tortillas, VEGAN MEAT FRIES $12.00 Everything was amazing, full of flavor. My family loved the food. Great portions. They also offer Hawaiian Licks (Plant based vegan nice cream made on the Big Island of Hawai 'i) available in a grab and go freezer that I can 't wait to pick up a few pints next time I visit. I will also try their Vegan Horchata. This is a great stop while on your North Shore adventures. Updated from previous review on 2020 10 14
