Tropika - Vancouver

A disappointing takeout meal from Tropika. Everything was mediocre, especially when paying $20+ for each dish. The Mee Goreng was very ketchuppy (no other flavors), the Hainanese Chicken was bland, the Rendang Lembu was just like regular curry. Definitely not the dry beef curry I was looking for. The Tropika Pan-Fried Mixture was ok but the menu said it comes with seafood. The only seafood I could see was dried shrimp. Not happy.

I went to this restaurant for a family dinner on Boxing Day and I would give it 4.5 stars. We had made a reservation but it wasn't too busy. The fried shrimp cakes and fried tofu appetizers were amazing. The silken tofu was fried perfectly, not too oily, with a nice balance of textures. The bak kut teh was just enough for 4 full bowls and had a strong herbal medicine flavor at first that might be off-putting to some, but it mellowed out to a herby and savory taste perfect for a cold winter day. The pork ribs were tender and flavorful, with over 100 different herbs in them according to our server. The acar fish was well-fried with a light sweet and sour quality. The nasi goreng was delicious and savory, just like the picture, although the cocktail shrimp and tinned sardines or anchovies were a bit disappointing. Overall, we had a delicious dinner with no leftovers and the portion sizes were just right for 4 adults and a toddler.

Tropika is a beloved establishment in the community known for its delicious South East Asian cuisine. The restaurant offers its own unique twist on these flavors, delivering tasty dishes that are worth trying. While the lunch specials are a great deal, the dinner prices are reasonable. I highly recommend giving Tropika a visit and trying out their menu. Overall, I would rate the food a 4 out of 5.

Singapore laksa very fishy taste don’t like it) but the roti canai Hainan chicken rice is very good and reasonable price

Coming from England, we always look at the reviews of where we want to go. This restaurant had mixed reviews from excellent to downright awful. Anyway, we decided to try it, the staff were welcoming, friendly and informative.
