Contribuiți la feedbackOk, try not to a judge a book by its cover. Does not look like much based on appearances. Just a blink-and-you-miss-it, small divey hole in the wall type of place on Commercial. Not the tidiest, cleanest, sparkliest palace of a place. But these joints can be like finding a diamond in the rough. I can sorta overlook dark dingy if food is worth it. Based on reviews here looks like other people have discovered this place too (which may account for why quality and portion size have changed lately...but with my visit it was good value for what I was served . This is just really authentic Indian 'street food '. The counter staff (whom I assume are the owners are straight-faced and stoic and mean all business but can be helpful at choosing dishes. Not sure of cleanliness when I saw handling of both food and cash without a hand wash, plus chopping up of raw chicken next to cooked food, and the bathroom was no comment...Street food.If you can turn a blind eye to all that...Curries are very good. Tad oily but rich and flavourful. The Prawn Masala is a fav. Can 't go wrong with anything really. Just eat-in/take-out and enjoy hot and fresh (I don 't recommend delivery!!! . The clay oven (tandoor naan is warm, soft and most of all large and mmmm so good.High marks for food Low marks for presentability
Considering the handful of reviews this place has received, and considering that I hadn't heard of this place until only very recently, it seems like Tandoori Palace is one of Vancouver's best kept secrets. In its price bracket, it's either one of the best Indian/Pakistani restaurants in the city, or comes very close to it!<br/ <br/ It doesn't look like much from the outside OR the inside, with space that might just be enough for 15 people, but the food is really good! <br/ I went to Tandoori Palace with 2 other friends yesterday night, and between us, we ordered seekh kebab, chicken tikka, butter chicken and chicken tikka masala. Each dish came to about $11, and included rice or naan. We decided to get one with rice, and 3 with naan.<br/ Now the chicken tikka is kind of overly red, and passable, and the seekh kebab, though pretty good, doesn't stand out on its own, but the chicken tikka masala (ordered on recommendation by the owner) and the butter chicken are the real winners. They were clearly the best I'd had in a long time. The butter chicken was just the right mix of creamy and tomatoey it's a pet peeve of mine that most Vancouver restaurants get this wrong.<br/ And then, there was the naan their naans are hot, huge, and amazingly soft and fluffy, without the chewy texture that you get at many places. When it comes to your table fresh out of the oven (tandoor), you could have just the plain naan for dinner.<br/ <br/ We really enjoyed our dinner. The staff is quite friendly, and chatty and it was the owner who recommended the chicken tikka masala to us. By the way, one dish is more than enough for one person. We ordered 4, and had quite a bit leftover to take home.<br/ <br/ Pro Tip #1: They serve halal meat, if that's a concern for anyone.<br/ Pro Tip #2: They give you the option of rice or naan. Always go for the naan!
The place is small and very basic but the food is so great that it does not matter. The portions are big and it is great to share a couple of dishes with another person. You can always take home what you can not finish. I usually do
Me likes the naan as soon as it comes out of that naan contraption-thingy
Great food, great service, great price. I love this place. The food is consistently delicious. The naan is to die for.
