The place is small with half a dozen tables and a counter where they assemble the dishes. It is Mediterranean but not Italian. The dishes are more middle eastern with fresh hummus, tzatziki sauces. The menu is small but I think that is fine. Better Greek salad compared to the Greek restaurants up the street on Davie. We ordered Beef kofta is basically Iranian style rolled meat, in a shape of sausage but not in a casing. Came with a nice salad, rice.Meatballs in tomatoes with saffron basmati rice and Greek salad was a variation on the meat with sauce. You order at the counter but if you are dining in, they will bring the food to you table.Friendly staff. Next time you are hungry and you want some fresh, casual food, try this little place.
We had pea and spinach soup and Mediterranean meatballs in a sauce wi salad and rice. I cannot speak highly enough of the quality of the food, the depth of flavour, the subtlety and deliciousness. This was a meal easily the equivalent of a high end, 5 star restaurant. Every single thing was made from scratch in the kitchen and the pride and love with which it was created was amply evident both in the food and in the passion with which its maker spoke to us when I thanked him for our meal. This is an absolute gem of a place and amazingly good value. Thank you!
I had the meatballs with rice. Everything was very tasty. For a bit over $10. Best meal out I've had in ages. Very nice staff. I think I'll be a regular here.
Open for lunch and until 8 pm, except Saturdays, Sumac Cafe will give your taste buds an unforgettable experience. Start salivating as you enter and see other colorful orders being enjoyed by the patrons. My eggplant tomato stew, supplemented with rice, toast and crisp salad was by far one of my best lunch dining sensations in the past year. Julia delivered the advertised vegetarian sandwich to my wife with a surprising bowl of delicious potato salad. Because of this lunch, our dinner tonight will have to be on the lighter side, but we look forward to returning to Sumac Cafe for a dinner, and we will definitely return to try out the entire lunch menu.
I went here for dinner last evening. The owner had made a squash soup which was incredible, and added to that a wonderful sandwich with fresh roast turkey, an in house cranberry spread with a chipotle mayo. He has a limited menu, but does specials to spice things up. You definitely know he cares about his food and what he is putting on the plate. I love this place.
