Contribuiți la feedbackWe had brunch here on Saturday and it was quite empty inside since the weather was nice out.
I really like loafe, the food is great and the location in the Alumni is fab - I must have eaten here 20 times.
As someone who had attended UBC over 30 years ago, I found this coffee house by my old department (Physics) a wonderful place to reminesce the old days on campus. The big window frames the comings and going of the students; and the coffee, freshly ground and hot and strong, makes you wonder if all the food offerings on campus are of much higher standard than years past. Now, there is no better sticky bun or BLT (grilled in beacon fat) made ANYWAY as they used to make it at the Student Union Building (SUB), but those days of high-cal foods are gone. Luckily, the scones at Loafe make a good impression. Do ask for it to be warmed up - and they did a good job at it (if I am not being too precise) - so it would be flaky and soft. I wish they had Devonshire cream (or just high quality butter), but that would be asking too much, wouldn't it? Still, the place is calm and relaxing (maybe because it is summer), and a great place to stop for a break during a tour of the ever expanding campus. As someone else pointed out, beer and wine are also served. You can even order a Campari. Alas, what next, antipasti and tapas at 6pm? Campus life has changed! Lucky kids these days!
Okay, so I love my waffles/pancakes :)I was happy to find their breakfast menu was available all day, so I had fried chicken and waffles for lunch. An interesting combination, but it was tasty, and hit both the savoury and sweet spots. Loafe seems to be consistently busy, as it's in the main area of UBC campus. But even if there's a lineup, there are usually a number of staff to take your order, so you don't wait long.Seating however, is another story - it's often full of students sitting doing homework, many not having food. There isn't a blackout on homework at the tables during lunch, but most food outlets on campus let students take all the seating without requiring them to order food. But that's a rant for another day and another forum. You'll just have to elbow your way in next to someone with their headphones plugged into their laptop, and share some table space. It works :)Anyway, loved the chicken and waffles, which was topped with liquid honey, and added nice flavour to the chicken as well as the waffles. I had a latte which really gave me a buzz; I'll have to make sure I don't have another one of those too late in the day :PIt's all windows on the south west side, so it's good for relaxing and getting some daylight/sunshine.
