Includes salmon, prawn tempura, yam tempura a salad, miso soup a piece of fruit and tea! Been going for over 5 years and never a change in quality. Well done.
Stumbled upon this hidden gem after getting groceries. I only had $2 and the server gave me a salmon roll, rice and tea! Amazing service, Amazing restaurant!
6 of us went at around 5:30. It took 45 minutes to get food, and it all came at different times. Apparently it was busy but it wasn 't full at all. The food was just okay, but good value. It is stinky due to being a small place.
This is the second time I have had dinner at Kitaya so I should share my experience. This restaurant is very small and understated, but the food is excellent and the service great with an authentic Japanese touch. The sashimi was particularly good; it was very good quality and the slices of tuna and salmon were so large and thick, and delicious! The selection of sushi was also very good, and expertly prepared. I have food allergies so ingredient knowledge by my server is very important, and both times (with different servers) I felt confident that I was being looked after in that regard. My only negative comment to make is the absence of gluten free soya sauce. For such a great little restaurant this would be such an easy fix. I will certainly eat here again, but I will bring my own next time and maybe they will get the hint. I should also say that the food is an excellent value easy on the pocket book.
Kitaya Japanese is a small restaurant perfectly suited for a casual lunch or dinner when dining solo or with a friend. The many smaller tables made it easy to relax and not worry that I was tying up a table when dining alone. The menu is quite extensive but I chose the chicken teriyaki box as a good way to try a variety of items without having lots of leftovers. The chicken teriyaki box includes: tea, miso soup, green salad, eight pieces of California roll, a small side of rice, a medium-sized helping of chicken teriyaki and five large pieces of tempura, including two prawns. All of it was tasty and actually much better than I expected. The price for more food than I could eat: an amazing $7.95 I will be returning to Kitaya Japanese with visiting relatives later this month.
