We went for an early dinner and were surprised by the variety of menu options and specials on the board. We had the Ginger Beef (menu) and a Chicken dish (special). Both were served on rice and portions were reasonable.Service was friendly and prompt. The Cosy Inn doesn't have much in way of atmosphere or decor but it was a tasty, basic meal and we were both satisfied.
Went to the Cosy Inn Cafe for breakfast recently. My friend and I both had the Denver omelette special. The omlette had a ample amount of filling and the dish came with toast and hash browns. We both enjoyed the breakfast, tasted good, nothing fancy but would have it again. Service was good, pleasant staff. Cafe was plain but clean, perhaps some extra TLC for the washrooms but over all a good experience. Would recommend the Cosy Inn, I would like to try their lunches as I've heard it is popular at lunch time.
Great fries, don't know how they do them but they sure are good! Husband had been there before, he thinks it's new owners. They handled a full-house of construction workers and walk-by (us) really well, moved fast. I think I ordered soup, but it was the fries off my husband's plate that impressed me; husband said his patty melt was good and I figure he got some fried too because he agrees he remembers how good they were. Chinese food looked great, that's what I'll have next time. I liked it because it lived up to expectations (mmm, those fries!)
For well over a decade and a half I always make an effort to have lunch at the Cosy Inn whenever I'm in the Dunbar neighborhood. Almost without exception I always order the deep fried chicken wings and chow mein combination. What a deal, for $10 included taxes and gratuity I've enjoyed a very satisfying and enjoyable lunch.
In the past, Chinese-Canadian cafes were common in every Vancouver neighborhood, serving simple 'western' dishes like burgers, sandwiches, and all-day breakfast, along with a few westernized Chinese options. As tastes evolved towards more authentic Chinese cuisine, these restaurants gradually disappeared as their owners retired. The Cosy Inn Cafe is a nostalgic throwback to those days, serving comforting food at affordable prices. Despite not expecting much, we were pleasantly surprised by our meal and would happily return for more.
