It’s pretty rare to find Burmese restaurants. We decided to check out Amay’s House, which also dabbles in Malaysian and Thai cuisine. They’re located next to Kawa Sushi. We dropped in on an early Saturday evening (around 6:15pm). A couple people strolled in but it was dead for a weekend. The inside is drab; not much going on decor wise. Service was passable as our tea pot was refilled but the food comes out slow. At least you know the food is being made fresh.
Fannypack is such a good dinner partner because she is mostly up for anything. When I said I wanted to try out Amay’s House, a burmese restaurant, she immediately says “Ok let’s go!”. We tried a bunch of staples. First we both really wanted Amay’s House’s version of Myanmar Tea Leaf Salad “Laphet Thoke” $8). Last time I had it was as Bo Laksa King. This version had the usual suspects of fermented tea leaves, tomato, cabbage, assorted beans and nuts.
I am always eager to sample new cuisines, so when I discovered that I could try Burmese food at Amay's House, I knew I had to give it a shot! I quickly realized that Burmese cuisine is similar to Thai and Malaysian cuisine, but with its own unique spice combinations, making it less intimidating to try.
