Such good Japanese food! Don't expect your usual california rolls—they have food that's not usually found at other Vancouver sushi places. Ordered their mentaiko udon, dill salmon mango roll, aburi saba oshi sushi, and their seafood gratin. I got really full and I split the above plates with one other person. <br/ <br/ Never had saba on my aburi, and it was interesting. I do prefer salmon in the end though. The mentaiko udon was amazing—a little fishy, but that's the way it's supposed to be. The seafood gratin was so creamy and delicious. The pricing wasn't oo bad either!
Four of us went to this Japanese-owned sushi restaurant for dinner. Master Sushi Chef Yuji has been serving a variety of sashimi and sushi rolls since Alpha opened in Yaletown in 2005. The restaurant has a cozy and comfortable atmosphere. My friend and I arrived early and were warmly greeted by the staff. When the third person arrived, he requested to switch tables, and the staff accommodated our request without any issues.
Alpha Sushi Bar is a small, cozy restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. The sushi is excellent, with perfectly cooked rice. I tried the Vancouver and California rolls and highly recommend the Vancouver roll, as it is a unique creation from Alpha and absolutely delicious.
This restaurant offers a modern twist on traditional sushi dishes. The Spicy Tuna Prawn Roll was delicious, thanks to the fantastic sauce. The Plum wasabi/mayo combination added a unique flavor. The Vancouver Jalapeno Roll featured chopped jalapeno, wasabi, and mayo sauce, which complemented the sockeye wrapped roll nicely. The rest of the sushi was expertly prepared and delicate, although slightly expensive for Vancouver. I look forward to returning to try more of their specials.
