Just wow. Very fresh, very delicious food. Highly recommend the lumpia. Can't wait to try it again!
I was so excited to eat here again since I used to love this restaurant but relocated a couple years ago. I started frequenting Silog when they first opened and were profiled on Eater LA. My ex was Filipino and he enjoyed it as well. I’m in town so I decided to try it again with my cousin-awful. Not a big deal, but before they used to seat and serve you-now you’re on your own. Everyone was polite, but not attentive at all, like never checked on us. Maybe they aren’t required to? I ordered the chicken adobo and sisig appetizer with calamansi tea. The adobo was very sweet to me and it was shredded. I guess shredded isn’t a big deal, but I’ve never had it served that way. The sisig… I kept feeling like I was crunching on sand, eggshells…really weird consistency and texture. Needless to say, I didn’t eat anymore. My husband was Filipino, I’ve eaten a ton of Filipino food…never have I felt like I was eating sand. I thought for a minute it was fried garlic…not sure what it was but it was unpleasant. My calamansi tea was beyond sweet… I finished it because I was thirsty and it still had good flavor, but super sweet. I’m not sure what happened here, but definitely not the quality of food I was used to which is a bummer?
This place is LEGIT! As a Filipino who grew up eating Manila style Filipino food practically every single day of my life, I can vouch for the authenticity of this restaurant. They serve the meanest breakfast in all of South Bay. Tocino silog: 5/5 I only wish they charred it a bit, but next time I will simply ask them to do so. It was still heavenlySizzling sisig: 5/5 I ordered the sizzling sisig instead of the silog because I wanted it on the sizzling plate! If you order the sisig silog, it'll just come on the banana leaf. I also learned that you get more meat ordering the sizzling sisig appetizer. So if you don't care for the egg, order the sizzling sisig appetizer and a garlic rice on the side it's only $1 more for more meat and for the sizzling effect! mango juice and calamansi juice: 4/5 it was just a tad too sweet for my liking. But the flavors were spot on! The ambiance is very casual. You order at the front and just take a seat. Then, you pick up your food when they call your name. They played Island Reggae the entire time I was there, which is my jam! The service was slow, but they explained that they cook everything to order which is why it takes long. I am okay with that, but if you are hoping for a quick breakfast then this is not the spot to sit down at. For quicker service, I recommend calling ahead of time for takeout. Do your tastebuds a favor and try this authentic, delicious Filipino restaurant with the best Filipino breakfast in all of SoCal!
I've been to this place quite a few times over the years, and the food is good. The menu is simple: You get a plate with garlic rice, and a soft boiled egg, and whatever protein you pick. They have beef, adobo chicken, etc. There are a few sides too, like lumpia (like Filipino egg rolls).Limited menu, but good. The downsides:1. the parking is a mess. Tight parking lot, often very crowded. That whole plaza is difficult with parking.2. always dark in there. Why so dark? And Last time I was there, a few days ago, some alarm or something kept going off for like 5 minutes inside the restaurant and no one was paying attention to it. Not a good vibe inside the place.3. No water to drink. I thought every restaurant has to offer water??!! They only had Bottled water to buy, or cans of soda.Overall, Worth checking out.
