This Shojin/Vegan restaurant is excellent! All the dishes were incredibly tasty and beautifully arranged. However, it was quite pricey.
What a place like the other two reviews have mentioned, daigo is nothing less than an experience. while most vegetarian places in tokio tend to an informal mood, this is anything but. this is a restaurant that is supposed to be enjoyed for itself (i.e. as an institution), as much as the food that they present. in the course of a lush multilingualism they have the opportunity to enjoy a series of exceptional textures and tastes. whether it is worth the price is for the discussion, although this is by no means a restaurant to book about a laune. be ready to wait between each cursor. that's a Kaiseki meal, not running.
My husband and I came here as part of our honeymoon in japan, so we really balled out. This is a restaurant with 2 Michelin stars, so expect to pay for it. We had a private room to ourselves overlooking a beautiful lit garden. The food was beyond anything I could even describe. We had the orchid Keiseki which was something like 15 courses and I thought I was going to explode after about the 10th. Even the fruit course was incredible. The service was stellar and we were taken on a private lantern lit tour of the temple complex on our way out. This was a very romantic and wonderful experience, but not one to be had often. This is a once in a lifetime type meal. We are both vegetarians and started eating fish in japan as it is very difficult not to, so we were able to eat everything here, but please note that some items are cooked with fish broth despite this being called a vegetarian restaurant. It is not clearly labeled anywhere what is and is not cooked with fish broth and the staff spoke little English.
This restaurant provides a unique and classy dining experience. It is a 2-star Michelin restaurant, so prices are on the higher side. The menu is vegetarian and Japanese, and the service is excellent with some staff members speaking English. While the food is good and beautifully presented, it may not be the absolute best in Japan. However, the true highlight is the atmosphere. Reservations are essential, and you must specify your desired menu when booking (details can be found on their website). The restaurant is hidden inside a residential building near a temple, making it difficult to locate. Follow the map provided at the time of your reservation and someone will be waiting to guide you to the second floor where the culinary magic awaits. It is recommended to have a Japanese-speaking friend assist with making the reservation if needed.
