The Other Seineyard is the closest location for us, so that's where we've dined for the last few years, but based on this visit we'll probably never go back. The server said they had three pieces of flounder left, two 14 oz and one 18 oz, so we ordered one grilled 14 and one fried 18. Just before we were served, the waiter advised my husband that they had accidentally burned his fish, but they put another one on and would have it out shortly. He then returned with the three meals for everyone else at the table. We delayed eating our meals so as not to be rude. We waited, and waited... finally my husband told everyone to eat their meals so they wouldn't get cold... nothing much worse than cold seafood. Finally, after twenty minutes they returned with his meal, but by that time the rest of us were finished. The worst thing is, not once did they offer anything to tide him over. Normally the flounder is quite good, but today it didn't seem as fresh as usual. The house dressing was very watered down and I didn't bother eating more than one bite of the cheese grits. The waiter only performed table maintenance when I asked him to remove dirty dishes from the table. When the bill arrived, we had been charged for the 18 oz flounder they had burned. My husband pointed this out to the waiter, but it took a couple of minutes of conversation for him to understand why the ticket should be adjusted, so that we would only be charged for a 14 oz since that was the only piece left that they could have cooked to serve him. *facepalm*
The only reason I'm giving this 3 stars is because of the service. The employees were terrific! Sweet and nice as you can be. I ordered my food to go for lunch and while I sat at a table waiting on it, one lady passed me by twice. Upon here 3rd trip by me, she asked if I was eating in. I told her I wasn't and that I got take out. She said ok then asked if I wanted a complimentary drink. Of COURSE I do! And this was after the cashier already treated me with kindness and pleasantries. I WISH I could speak that highly for the food. There was a mullet and popcorn shrimp special that day with two sides and hush puppies. The popcorn shrimp was good but the fried mullet had no seasoning. I can't recall ever in my life tasting fried seafood with no flavor. I asked for a baked potato but was given a baked sweet potato instead that ended up being too baked. Had a couple of burnt spots on it. Then there were the cheese grits which actually were decent but given in the smallest side container ever. Even the free fruit punch was watered down. I typically give restaurants at least a second chance but I honestly can't say when I will. This place underwhelmed like nobody's business. Their customer service was the saving grace for me.
I wanted to share a fresh fish experience with a guest who had never been to Florida before and the Seinyard delivered a great lunch. First of all the service was outstanding! And the food was great too. He had fried grouper with coleslaw and fried pickles. He had never tried grouper or fried pickles before and was impressed with both! I ate the grilled shrimp salad and let him try some of the shrimp and he said it was also very good. I agree. I enjoyed the house dressing with my salad but the best condiment was the spicy ranch dip that was served with the pickles! OMG that was good!! Thank you Seinyard!! You came thru for me!
The classic Southern fried seafood restaurant. Don't come here looking for anything fancy, not even as fancy as oysters on the halfshell. Come here for fried comfort food done right. I now live in Dallas but am from Tallahassee and absolutely love fried seafood of all kinds. It's getting harder and harder to find more than bland catfish fillets and popcorn shrimp, but this in-town version of the Seineyard totally delivers. We ordered fried green tomatoes, fried mullet, and fried shrimp, with sides of coleslaw and grits. Everything was absolutely perfect except for the coleslaw, which was much sweeter than I like (a matter of preference). The fried green tomatoes were a triumph, fried only on cornmeal and nicely seasoned. They were actual GREEN tomatoes, tart, firm, and completely unripe. The mullet was my favorite part: instead of bland, soulless fillets, they served the whole fish, fillets removed but backbone, fins, and tail served alongside. I don't mind eating around some bones if it meals fish this fresh and delicious! Where else can you get fried mullet these days?! Shrimp were also very lightly battered in cornmeal, and not at all overcooked. Grits were cheesy, rich, and nicely textured and we loved the hushpuppies too. If you like your coleslaw sweet, you probably won't have a problem, but next time I'll replace that order with a different side. The atmosphere is homey, simple, and comfortable. Our service was lightning-fast and food arrived in about 1/4th the amount of time I expected. Everything was served FRESHLY FRIED, piping hot. Loved it and will be back on my next trip to Tally.
This is our go to local seafood restaurant. Very comfortable if simple dining area. They do a good job with their fried seafood and their cheese grits are to die for. So creamy they are almost pudding like. If they put sugar in them they could be a dessert. I really like their fried mullet, but have also enjoyed the shrimp and oysters. The service is always good and friendly.
