Heianraku - Takayama

Delicious food and friendly staff! Not only the menu includes vegan elements, it was also clearly marked that vegan food all meat, milk products, eggs and honey, we had the gyoza, yaki miso, and yaki tofu. the meal came with an appetizer of the local vegetables and a really tasty potato in the sauce. everything tasted incredible! and the staff was so helpful and friendly! they even gave us a delicious tangerine and some happy cow stickers on our way out! next time I visit takayama!

There is a series of vegan options in takayama, so it was a bit difficult for us to choose, but I am so happy that we landed here. we had two different types of rammen (miso and a spicy Chinese style) plus gyoza and local style kartoffels and tofu. the owners are incredibly friendly and courteous. the building is old and aesthetically appealing. please give this shop their business! they do not regret it.

We had the 2 people cursor with tofu curry and the sweet nebel tofu stir fry. everything was delicious! Naoko-san, the owner, would explain how the different species were cooked by tofu and they also gave us some freebies! the interieur is cozy and looks like a showa era Chinese place. the menu has been made very carefully, with clearly marked vegan, gluten-free and vegetarian options. it was a fantastic experience overall, and I would definitely come back!

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would! the woman of the man who runs it is super friendly and welcoming. it was such a brilliant experience from beginning to end. I dream for a long time of the sweet nebel sauce tofu dish! when they are in takayama, they really need to eat here (we have easily booked through facebook, its very small so that they need to book - it is really worth not about this restaurant enough rave. probably the easiest order/options/eating experience I had in a really long time in the country. thanks!

If you’re in Takayama for any length of time, you MUST visit this restaurant!! Absolutely incredible experience, from the food to the beautiful, cosy atmosphere, to the UNBELIEVABLY kind employees who treat you so well and go above and beyond to provide you with an amazing time. Can’t emphasise their kindness enough. Fantastic value for money (amaaazing prices), BEAUTIFUL food (some of the best we’ve had in Japan), beautiful people, and overall one of the best places I can recall visiting. Plus SO accommodating for your dietary requirements as well – veganism was never an issue in this lovely restaurant. If you have time for only one food stop in Takayama, make sure it’s this one!! I wish I could come here a billion times over
