Nonetheless, I dined at this restaurant some time ago with a friend using a Deal Grocer coupon for a set menu. I was taken aback that this restaurant did not offer complimentary bread. We ordered tapas and wanted to enjoy the sauce with bread, but unfortunately had to order it separately. Contrary to another reviewer's claim, the bread served is not pan de sal. As a Filipino, I am familiar with pan de sal, and the bread at Beso is not quite the same. It seemed to be a strange mix of pan de sal and monay, as it was both sweet and crumbly on the outside. This was not the type of bread I would have expected from a place like Beso, especially considering we had to pay for it. I believe our set menu included grilled sardines, which had a strange texture. I had hoped they would be more crisp, as we had to be careful with every bite to avoid choking on bits of fish bones. The meatballs were decent, but lacked proper presentation with cold temperature upon serving. The pasta, likely ox tail, was enjoyable. The iced tea was delicious and refreshing, while the crema Catalan dessert was outstanding despite the long wait. My main concern with this restaurant is the subpar service. Despite having ample staff on hand, we had to desperately signal for attention like we were stranded on a deserted island. Even with a set menu, we had to inquire about our dessert, which should have been served automatically. It appeared that our plates were cleared with no indication of dessert coming. When we finally managed to flag down a waiter, we were asked if we wanted our dessert served, which of course we did. The lack of attentive service was further evidenced by having to request service water. Given the upscale setting and prices, one would expect to receive service water promptly upon seating. If the restaurant wishes to conserve water, they should at least inform guests of how to request it. In establishments of this caliber, such as in Makati and BGC, providing service water is generally expected.
We visited this restaurant and ordered the salmon entree and the mushroom tortilla española. Our first indication that this may not have been the best choice for Spanish tapas was when they served us local Filipino bread (pan de sal) with olive oil. It was... unusual. The tortilla was not the traditional kind - it was a very greasy flat frittata instead of the thick, partially baked, cold tortilla we were expecting. The portion size of the salmon was much smaller than what the waiter had described, about the size of a deck of cards. While the cauliflower puree was good, the unexpected abundance of raisins mixed in was not to our liking. Overall, we have enjoyed better Spanish food in Manila and do not plan on returning to this restaurant.
Everyone in our group had an enjoyable time at the restaurant, but the food was not particularly memorable. Some of the tapas we tried included a Beso sampler plate with cured meats, blue cheese in truffle honey, and manchego for 695 pesos. While the presentation was nice, the fact that nothing was cooked was a downside. The pintxos platter with cooked meats, flatbread, and cheese for 625 pesos was a better option for the price, as everything was grilled well. The Tapas Squid ala plancha was a small portion that was undercooked and stringy for 385 pesos. The Marinated manchego cheese was 290 pesos for 9 slices, but it was the same cheese as the platter, making it a waste of money. The all meat paella in a 6-inch pan for 625 pesos was tasty but oily. The Gambas sautéed in chorizo with 6 large shrimp for 485 pesos lacked flavor and spice, with the garlic and chorizo not coming through in the dish. Despite the friendly staff and quick service, the food was expensive compared to other local options. Overall, it was a forgettable dining experience that may not be worth revisiting in the future.
Just had dinner and drinks awhile ago. This restaurant has the worst service in the planet. Even fast food chains are way better than these people. We ordered unlimited sangria and requested for the wine to have a stronger dose because it tasted like orange juice. We were rejected by the waiter and told that we have to stick with the mix. When we asked for our bills to be split with certain instructions, with 2 cashiers clarifying, it was a wrong split bill. When we asked to make it correct, we were rejected by saying that the POS system can't do it. The manager in white seems like a display. We had to call him to talk to him and all he can just say is say sorry. He did offer to get us some more sangria but come on, why did we have a feeling that it was the manager's order. YOU NEED TO WORK ON YOUR SERVICE!
For a quiet place to catch up with friends, this would be on the top 10 of my list. It doesn't have the loud music or atmosphere of most bars so you can really hear the conversations.The food is also delicious! I love their paella & various tapas.They also have promos on beverages like cocktails, wine & sangria. Personally, I prefer monday night drink all you can sangria!The atmosphere is very relaxing too & the staff is very attentive & polite.It's a bit pricey compared to other drinking spots but worth the food & atmosphere. Be prepared to spend at least Php1k per person.
