A R's Cafe - Surfside Beach

We just moved here from KC and AR’s staff welcomed us with smiles, food suggestions, jokes and swift service. The food was excellent!

This place is obviously a family run place and the staff is way overworked. Food is good and tortillas are the best. They could use a little more help though on the weekends. Why are all these places in Texas like this one have dining rooms so packed though. I don't recommend this place if you don't like to be packed in a small area with complete strangers.

Located in Freeport,Tx. One of the best Mexican food restaurants around on the Tx Gulf coast. Family owned and run for years. They're well known for their Hippo Breakfast tacos. They're huge loaded down with your choices. The flour tortillas are fresh, handmade and always served hot. salsa handmade also. Coffee and casual crowds for breakfast and lunch only. Quick and courteous wait staff. As far as I know, mostly family also. My husband loves the Barbacoa plate while I get the Carne Gusaido...meat so tender. They have everything from Chicken Fried steak to 4 kinds of Enchiladas. All very reasonably priced. The dining atea kept clean and tables cleared fast. They have to be because the tables are always full and the food is delicious. I'm lucky as I live close enough to walk to them but then I'd be too full to walk home!

Im fairly new to Freeport and there 's so many Mexican food places that we 're testing out that we tried ARS and the food was salty, in fact it was uneatable sorry to say. So i guess i can mark them off my good eating list .
