The ambience was terrific, so busy with locals and visitors.cant wait to go earlier and have lunch next time. Dog friendly too
Really quirky coffee shop and restaurant. I had a flat white and a croissant cake thing which was like a posh bread and butter pudding. Both were excellent and I would definitely return. The staff were charming, there was a cute area for little ones with books and toys too
The food at this restaurant is very visually appealing and quite appetizing, and it's also a great value for the price we paid. We were pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes, which were larger than expected and well presented.
I had a terrible experience at The Canteen during lunch on a Saturday. My son took me there as a surprise, but we were disappointed with our meal. The weather was cold and the restaurant was not very warm. We ordered cheese on toast and a breakfast, along with two glasses of water. The option of cakes was limited, with only vegan options available on a busy Saturday. We were directed to a table at the back, but then told to move to another area. The ceiling lamps were too low, causing my son to hit his head. The table was dirty and the area was cold due to the doors constantly being opened and closed by staff. Our meals arrived and were unsatisfactory. The cheese on toast was overloaded with cheese in a sandwich, with tomato and cucumber on the side as an afterthought. My son's big breakfast looked inedible, with burnt bacon, tomatoes, and mushrooms, a blackened sausage, and hard toast. The only saving grace was the runny poached egg. The ambience was cold and dirty, with uncomfortable metal chairs. We will not be returning to The Canteen and do not recommend it.
This is a really interesting place full of eclectic furniture and fittings. The food is really good if a little slow in coming. Definí worth a visit
