Such a wonderful farm to table dining experience, it truly is a gem. In addition to the best food I've ever eaten, I love that it is in a well loved and restored historical home and in a true Maine small town. Kirk, Charlie and the rest of the Hichborn family made us feel very welcome and there was no rush- we were able to sit and savor every course, with wine pairings, and just enjoy the evening. Thank you!

First, the good. Gorgeous building, excellent food, a romantic ambiance. We were blown away over and over again as each dish was brought out to us. The exquisite presentation was only outmatched by the quality of the food itself. For dessert we enjoyed a pumpkin and chevre cheesecake paired with chai ice cream I will be thinking about that dessert for a long, long time. Now, for the not-quite-good. I don't know how to describe our waiter other than the vibe was weird. He was polite and answered our questions, and we definitely saw him chat lively and share photos with the table next to us. But he was sometimes short with us and once quickly walked away when I had barely finished a sentence. It was so weird that on the drive home I actually asked my husband if I had said anything that might have offended him. My husband agreed that the waiter seemed a little cool towards us but the food was great so we decided not to worry about it. However, the owner of our B&B in Camden had not heard of The Hichborn and wanted us to let her know if she should add it to her list of area restaurant recommendations. While the food itself was some of the best we had ever had, we do like a more amiable experience when trying new restaurants in new cities and not getting that put a damper on the experience, so we didn't bother recommending the restaurant. I figure people will probably find it on their own just fine and maybe a future guest will give it a more enthusiastic recommendation than we could provide.
We celebrated our anniversary with a fabulous dinner at The Hichborn. The meal was delicious—nearly left us speechless, though we actually keep talking about it! We have done prix fixe with wine pairings in Boston, but those meals do not compare. Each course, including the surprise additions, was perfect and scrumptious and locally sourced. We would drive from Boston with no other purpose than to eat here again!
