Rose Inn - Southend-on-Sea

Used to be, effectively, my regular. As always, a warm, friendly welcome. Attentive staff. Fair priced drinks (for South Essex). A wet Saturday night Halloween event, with band AOB. Just very chilled, with rocky overtones. Standard menu, which from experience is perfectly fine. Specials menu looks lush. Enjoyed my walk down memory lane immensely. Won't leave it so long until my next visit. Service: 5

Food was excellent. I had chicken and ham pie. It was delicious. Staff very good. Friendly. Atmosphere OK but it was half term so a lot of children. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

It had been a while since we had been to the Rose Inn. We visited on a Saturday afternoon it was fairly quiet so we sat down for some late lunch. We ordered starters and main courses. When the starters came out 45mins after we ordered them we were a little disappointed. We then waited for our plates to be cleared but this didn't happen until our main course then appeared. The main courses were disappointing, for the price, the portions were quite small. I had the fish cakes which were extremely greasy, they were meant to be on a bed of rocket, however they seemed to have a smallish garnish of rocket, these were more of a starter rather than a £15 main course. I also tried to order two soft drinks from the menu neither of them the pub stocked, and when ordering we were told they are sent the menus from the brewery but then they don't get sent all the products. Overall the pub was clean and tidy And staff friendly, it was just disappointing they didn't have the drinks I tried to order and the food was disappointing and not value for money.

Went today for lunch and the starter was overcooked and chewy (squid). I had macaroni cheese for main and it tasted like it had come out of a tin, very processed taste. Side of bread which was very dry. Such a shame really as it has a nice restaurant area and looks like it should serve decent quality food from the outside, but the reality is very different. Staff were approachable but service was slow. Price per person: £10–20
