He made some excellent recommendations for us. We began our evening with some delightful mussels and bruschetta, both fresh and flavorful. Unlike the usual garlic-butter-cream sauces I’ve had with mussels elsewhere, the sauce here was rich and divine without being overly oily. The creamy texture had us all using the complimentary sourdough bread to soak up every last bit. Plus, the portion sizes for the appetizers were generous, ensuring that all five of us had our fill. For our main courses, we all chose different dishes. I went with the baked haddock, which was topped with fresh greens and a wonderful white wine reduction, accompanied by a side of creamy polenta. I also enjoyed a seafood pasta that featured a vodka sauce brimming with fresh lobster, medium shrimp, and large scallops, making it feel indulgent. The penne pasta was cooked to a perfect al dente, and it came with two hearty slices of bread. My wife loved her portobello mushroom sandwich but had to take some home due to its generous size. My son was equally pleased with his haddock sandwich, featuring beer-battered fish and fresh, tasty French fries. Overall, this was a fantastic dining experience. The only reason I’m giving it four stars instead of five is that without the coupon we purchased, our total bill came to around $170. While that’s not unreasonable for five people, including appetizers and drinks, I would expect those prices downtown in the Old Port rather than in this area near the Maine Mall. We definitely plan to return for steak next time, perhaps just the two of us, to make it a special occasion.
Very nice dinner at the restaurant at the Marriot at Sable Oaks. Have stayed at this hotel quite a few times, so always feel comfortable that I could have a nice dinner here. There were quite a few options on the menu, I roasted a headache, lamb, pork shank, scallops. I went with the pork shank, My wife went with the scallops, both very good. Nothing like a good pork shank!
During our Northeast road trip last September, we decided to have a late second dinner at the Fire and Water Fish Chophouse, the restaurant in the Marriott at Sable Oaks in Portland, ME. Earlier in the evening, we had dinner elsewhere, but we were still a bit hungry, so we opted to try the hotel restaurant. I ordered the clam chowder, and we enjoyed some drinks as well. The chowder was solid with a generous portion. While I wouldn't say it was the best clam chowder I've ever had, it was great to have dining options that stay open later during our time in Portland. The menu offered a good variety, and the service was commendable. I would definitely consider dining there again on my next visit to Portland, ME, especially if I'm staying at the hotel.
Very nice looking restaurant, professional waitstaff, excellent food quality and presentation. Pleasantly surprised by the complimentary bread with oil/peppers and hummus. Decent drink and overall menu selection. The only negative was my scallop appetizer. It was $12 and had 2.5 average sized scallops. Very disappointing. My entree (seafood penne) was excellent and had a good portion of lobster scallops and shrimp.
The service here is pretty good and food was also good. We ate here twice and both times didn't disappoint. First time, we sat at the bar and had a few drinks. I got the crab cakes which were delicious and a blueberry moijto. The moijto was fabulous because we'll mixed. The staff was helpful in suggesting a brewery to tour. The second night, we sat at table and ordered food. I got the French onion soup and a burger which were delicious. The price was fairly decent for hotel food.
