I then visited the restaurant which were testing out their new menu. The garlic and chilli prawns are to die for! I would highly recommend them to any seafood lovers, you won’t be disappointed! The fish and chips!
Visited the Hilton House hotel with friends. We go out every few weeks and decided to try here for a meal. It's a lovely quaint hotel with a relaxing atmosphere. We were shown to our table and given the menus. A good selection of food. We ordered our meal and were told there would be a slight delay as a party of 7 had just ordered. The meal arrived hot with plenty of fresh vegetables. Absolutely delicious! Of course we had to order a sweet even though we were rather full. Delightful evening with superb food and staff. Will definitely return.
We arrived one evening in our motorhome as we had relatives staying in the hotel. I asked permission to stay in their car park overnight, so we could have drinks in the bar with our relatives, and was told that would be okay by the most senior member of staff on site. Several hours (and drinks) later, the owner arrived and informed me that motorhomes are not welcome 'because of gypsies ' (very racist/discriminatory attitude) so she was not 'legally allowed ' to let us stay over. This is not true and many pubs in the area allow overnight stays. I told her I had already asked and been given permission, so had been drinking. Her response was that I 'd have to wait a few hours, then leave. This put me in a very difficult position in relation to possible drink driving, and left us looking for somewhere else to stay at the last minute. Far from ideal with two children. I took one full and one half finished drink back to the bar and asked for a refund as I wouldn 't be able to carry on drinking alcohol. Given the circumstances, I would have expected a full refund and an apology. Instead I was refused a refund on the half finished drink. When I pointed out it would have been the least she could do, the owner told me she wasn 't bothered because I wasn 't local so they wouldn 't be losing business. She then went on to suggest that I had lied about being given permission, even though a family member had heard her member of staff confirm that I had been given permission. Awful, awful customer service from a decidedly average (and that 's being generous) hotel/bar.
Visited a number of lunchtimes over the last few months. Good offers on good home cooked food, real chips always a bonus. Shame to say not as busy as it should be, as people tend to use the chain pub in the village churning out the usual....
We have eaten here before so when we wanted a venue for a meal for Mother Father in law's anniversary the choice was easy. Lovely carvery with generous portions of meal and so obviously home cooked. Always on our list for return.
