Wit Wisdom - Sonoma

The atmosphere of the restaurant and the adjoining lodge hotel is excellent, but the food leaves much to be desired. The roasted chicken was dry and overly salty, and the salmon was also lacking moisture. Given the high prices, I expected better quality meals. However, the ambiance and seating are quite pleasant.

Nonetheless, we were eager to try the food due to the restaurant’s excellent reviews. My husband ordered the burger, and I chose the short rib cavatelli. The burger looked promising, but the bun was cold and stale, and the meat was somewhat dry and lacking in flavor. The short rib pasta was unappealing with its gray sauce, and the cauliflower flavor was quite overpowering. While there was a nice "Happy Birthday" note waiting for us at the table, it seemed that the waiter realized we were having a less than satisfactory experience, as he didn’t even bring us a dessert menu. When it was time to settle our bill, we were taken aback to find that each soft drink and refill cost $5, especially since the glasses were mainly filled with ice and were refilled without us asking. Overall, we were disappointed with both the food and the service and cannot recommend this restaurant.

The service was satisfactory; our drinks and food arrived in a reasonable timeframe, and most of the dishes were good, though not exceptional. I ordered a pasta dish that came in a bowl about the size of my children's bowls. The pasta was delicious, but the cheese was a bit stringy and tough. My husband ordered the burger but found it underwhelming—the bun lacked flavor, and the meat was forgettable. We also tried a few appetizers, including the beets, which were cut a bit too large. I’m giving it four stars because the atmosphere is beautiful, there's plenty of parking, the drinks are visually appealing and delicious, and the service was nice. We may have just ordered the wrong items; we skipped the lobster pot pie, which they are known for, and due to our large group, we couldn't choose the tasting menu since not everyone wanted it and all diners at the table must partake.

We celebrated our anniversary at Wit Wisdom. We opted for tasting menu and it was excellent. Beet salad may have been best beet salad I've ever had. Halibut was also delicious. Our server, Mayra, had a beautiful smile and personality, and patiently answered all our questions about the food and wine, which is reasonably priced by Napa/Sonoma standards. Highly recommend Wit Wisdom!
