I was there several times with different friends. Position is worthless, in the evening they make fix menu, always with a lot of variety and good food and music. At the end of dinner you can decide to go in the beauty of Sils or slip down the whole way. What?
At Kuhstall you buy more than a dinner. You get an experience. You need to walk in the wood (unless you give up and take the snow-cart) for half an hour along a cross country track. Once you are there you will enter into an amazing place. A real stable simply but elegantly furnished that works as such during the summer and is converted into a restaurant in the winter. Good choice of food and even greater range of good wines and alcoholics to fight the chilling cold outside. I have been several times with friends. Last time I had great grilled beef with nice side dishes and decent desserts. Good quality. Prices reasonable in the Swiss context of high restaurant prices.
Freddie Zwimpfer and is do a great job of serving wonderful food in this little cow shed close on the slopes under Furtschellas-cable car. At night a 30 min walk from the parking will bring you into a world apart. The menu is always deliciously composed, the wine carefully selected (from value for money to true liquid sins). During the day the terrasse carved-out of the snow allows a wind-protected sun bath while enjoying the food. The secret of the good food seem to be the quality of the ingredients and the self limitation to those foods that can be prepared well under the restrictions of a small kitchen. Careful: Cigar Afficionados will most probably not be alone at noon. Freddie also has a selection of cigars available. So if you mind the smoke of a good cuban cigar, maybe not your place. Quality is not inexpensive. Oh well.
There are many other better ways to eat on the mountain. It is a beautiful place to stop outside or inside for a drink. The decor is beautiful and warmer service was so. We split the reserve ribs, but they were a bit dry. The baked potato was totally boiled and hard and the salad was overlaid. The house red wine was nice, but would not repeat.
