They focus on unprocessed and sustainable food and the price is so incredibly reasonable too, cheaper in fact than many sushi restaurants in Edmonton. No food is demonized here, there is no sacrifice of delicious food here for sustainability as in many restaurants. It is clear that unprocessed does not equate to restricted eating, you can still get delicious drinks and the crispiest fried chicken I have ever had. Everything was fresh, the fish was the best I have ever eaten (and I am from England, where we have pretty awesome fish if nothing else).Sure it is a tiny restaurant so you will want to book at busy times but this isn't a negative in my opinion. We are all so used to rushed, mass prepared meals that can be cranked out to massive restaurants super fast, but because of the small size here, each dish is prepared carefully and perfectly, it is worth having to plan your visit. Also our server was awesome, everything was explained perfectly and she was attentive but not overbearing. All round wonderful experience.
We had omakase as recommended by some friends and family (needs to be booked in advance . Ron was very accommodating to our preferences. Our highlights were the variations of tuna, mackerel, sable fish aburi salmon. Very fun and special experience, everything was delicious! Highly recommended. We are also obsessed with their Apple crème brûlée. Thank you Ron :
Place is small. 3 tables and a bar table. Very cramped inside. Wife and I ordered 2 Maki rolls 5pc of salmon shashmi and some chicken and rice. Was not impressed. First off the chicken was super salty which is fine with the rice, but I had a hard time knowing which was the salmon or tuna Maki as the salmon was very pale with no color as you can see in the picture. Lastly we ordered the waygu tataki, although decent taste but it was definitely not waygu. I am super sensitive to the fishy taste and I did not taste it which was good, the lady that served us was also very pleasant which I can knock them on the service.
This place is always perfect. Selection of fish is vast, yet fresh and so tasty. We got the large chirashi bowl, sashimi bento, eggplant appetizer, ika(octopus) appetizer, deep fried chicken skin, aburi salmon, and engawa sushi. Highly recommend the engawa anytime they have it, because it's melt in your mouth goodness. The mackerel is so yummy as well. Not fishy at all and great natural flavour. Will definitely be back.
Still amazed! The combinations of the citrus sauce and the fish are incredible with no complaint! 30 mins drive is always worth it.
