Shawnee's Bates City Bbq

I happened to be here and the experience was better than any place I had eaten on many trips to KC. The food and service was amazing. The ribs and burned ends excellent. Freshly cut pommes delicious. The young men were all so human and helpful to make my choice. I had the mixed grill under sandwiches, but you can eat it as a sandwich with the burned ends and 2 beautiful fleshy ribs or as a meal. Excellent sauce but would order on the page. They also offer a sharp one. By far my new favorite. I'll be back!

Good food, reasonable prices, a local atmosphere and a great friendly service. We had the Thursday Specials... a whole ribbed plate for $15 and a burnt end sandwich for $6.95. Both were cheap. Ribs were a bit fat, but the burnt ends had great smoke taste.

Food and people working there are always great. French Pommes are the best in town. They made the food for my daughter's wedding a few weeks ago. Everyone loved the BBQ and the sides. Many compliments about the food get. This is a place where my wife and I go to eat consistently.

We're barbecue snobs. Let's just put this out. Texas and North Carolina are where we are a lot of our background, where smoked meats are an absolute art, such as sauces. We're THOSE. The meat here is perfectly cooked. The true test of the grill is whether you need sauce or not. This place has amazing sauce, and we have brought a few cups of it to go with our meal, and have used nothing of it. The food is. We went with three bottles of sauce made in the house and sold at a great price. The atmosphere inside is very beautiful, and honest when you see a few wooden laces sitting on the door when you go in, you know that you are in the grill sky.

Classic, Midwest, hickory smoked barbecue. One word delicious! Had slice brisket, burnt ends, and fall off the bone ribs. Not sure what the special occasion was, but $1 long necks. 0.1 star for Pepsi products, but good ice tea. And the sauce was excellent. This reminded me of Hayward’s in its hay day. Also love the fast casual dining room with license plate and sports decor all Chiefs and Royals.
