Muito boa pizza, só não aceitam cartão, tem que ter dinheiro.
Avoid being a fan of fashionable restaurants and food. If you love the type of pizza that is now fashionable in Portugal (overpriced, with tasteless tortilla thin crust, almost no cheese, intoxicating and unequally distributed toppings, and ludicrous amounts of arugula or water cresss above to conceal the lack of everything else), this place is not for you. Boccochino is for people who really like to eat. Pasta is good, but pizzas are the really strong suit here: they are generous and delicious, with good crust, good ingredients and good combos. The Sangria is famous: it is very good, but beware, because it feels deceptively light, and you could only realize how sharp you are actually when you try to get up. Fair warning: If the place is full (which is almost always) it will be very loud, and the service could be painfully slow, but for me it is one of the few places that are worth waiting. Skip Dessert, as it is definitely not her strongest suit (at the end of the meal you do not have space for it). It feels like the staff is always in a hurry, but they are usually very friendly not. This is really a place of locals, for locals.
We chose to visit Boccochino for my daughter 's 30th birthday celebrations hoping it 's going to be the best experience at a high end restaurant. Where do I start.... To begin with we arrived at the restaurant on time and as we entered we had to wait at reception desk to advise them of our reservation. There was only one lady to assist, checkin, hang coats and show you to your table. This we had to wait a while as she very slowly and calmly checked in the guest who was in front of us, hung her coat very slowly without even acknowledging us. She took her own sweet time whilst we waited and without saying anything to us she walked away to show the other guest to her table. This the beginning was awful. We waited for almost 10mins after we lost our patience and walked to the restaurant to find our table as my other daughter was already there waiting for us. We sat a terrible table with sofa seats where or felt I was sitting on the floor and my chin was on the table so we asked to be moved which took a while to be sorted and got moved to a table with proper chairs. After waiting for drinks and wine list for sometime Our reason for visiting Boccochino was to celebrate my daughter 's 30th birthday celebrations. On arrival to the restaurant there was only one lady to greet, checkin, hang coats and show the guest to their table. When we entered there was one guest in front of us and reflection lady was with her checking her in, hanging her coat slowly not acknowledging us or asking us to wait . Whilst we were waiting she took the guest to her table once again not looking at us or saying anything. We waited for 10mins after which we walked into the testier any to find the table where our daughter was waiting for us. Table allocated had sofa seating, felt like sitting on the floor and my chin was on the table therefore we asked for another table. It took several minutes to move us to a table with proper chairs. Now waiting for a while we had to call upon one of the waiter to take our order. We ordered our drinks with a bottle of white wine. After waiting for 25mins we were served some of the drinks still waiting for white wine. Eventually getting fed up we ordered starters and as yet no white wine. After 15mins starters were served WITHOUT white wine. After almost 45 mins of what we were informed that they did not have that wine in stock and can give us a substitute with which we were not happy but had no choice so ordered another choice of wine. Now coming on to the main meal. We had has asked for well done pizza and asparagus risotto. Pizza was so soggy that one could not eat with hand. We had asked for well done where the sides were well done almost burnt but the rest was soggy soft with sauce. Risotto had no favour or taste. We asked for lemon wedges with risotto which as like white wine did not get served and had to ask 3times until risotto got cold. We asked for chilli flakes which we were served but after two mins on our table waiter came and asked for it saying another guest repeated. Shocked and appalled that he could not get another bottle or bowl of chilli flakes for the other guest. This attitude happens at 1,2 or 3 star restaurants and not a restaurant like Boccochino. Finally to desert and coffee. Ordered desert with happy 30th birthday name all written given to one of the waiter and did it happen? Nope it didn 't came with only happy birthday . I ordered a coffee which never came and being so fed up with all the experience we had that evening we asked several waiters for the bill which again did not come therefore had to get up and ask for the bill. After being handed over the bill and ready with my credit card no one would bother to come to our table to come with card machine to take out payment until I got so annoyed and had one of the waiter come up to take the payment. On leaving the restaurant I complained to the manager for that evening who apologised but never mentioned to refund or reduce the bill as a good will gesture with so many issues and faults that evening. In face he handed me his card and said if ever you in this area do come in and I will look after you. This was not enough for me at all and I felt that they were least bothered with the events of the evening. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE FOR FOOD, SERVICE OR AMBIENCE. It spoilt our whole evening and not worth at all for what we spent.
