Tomatina San Jose

We ordered a calamari appetizer, a Mediterranean salad, spaghetti and meatballs, chicken marsala, and roasted salmon. The breading on the calamari fell off when she tried to pick up a piece, which made it seem like the fish was improperly cooked. However, the salad was excellent and very flavorful, definitely the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, all three of our main dishes took a long time to arrive because another table had ordered the same items (chicken and salmon) and received their meals before us, despite having arrived after us. When our pasta dishes finally came, they were swimming in water with hardly any sauce, making it seem like the chefs just dumped the pasta directly from the pot without properly plating it. Overall, we got the impression that the restaurant was under-staffed, especially since many tables were half-empty while numerous takeout orders were being filled. It felt as if we, the patrons dining in the restaurant, were an afterthought. After finishing our meal, our server never returned to our table to offer the check. When the busser came by to clear our table, we asked for the check, only to find another QR code on the table that we could use to pay through our phones. This raised a question: what would they do if someone paid with cash?

Fantastic food! I will definitely return the next time I'm in the city.

Tomatina has been our go-to restaurant since it opened, and it never disappoints. Recently, we enjoyed some creative and delicious seasonal specials. We started with a fantastic warm dish of cauliflower, broccoli, and corn topped with pine nuts, which we loved. I ordered the butternut squash ravioli, while my partner chose his favorite—sausage pizza with mushrooms. The portions were generous, allowing us to take some home for lunch the next day. We paired our meal with the house red wine, an excellent value at just $3 a glass. We even made room for sharing a cheesecake drizzled with caramel sauce, which was the perfect sweet ending to our dinner! Our server, Eli, was exceptional, making our evening truly special.

Stick with classic pastas. Do not order chicken. Worst Chicken Marsala Ive ever experienced.

They ran out of the papperdelle noodles for their seasonal special, but substituted fettucine. There was very little sauce on the penne bolognese. We've had better meals at this location, but it's unlikely that we'll return. On the plus side, there seemed to be plenty of pleasant, helpful workers, although they seemed a bit disorganized.
